junkanoo: after all the years it still holds mystery. Two problems basically. Because the preparation and production of Junkanoo has not been allowed to enter the 21 sat century, it still remains very labor intensive and still very costly. Spending $18 million on parades that lasts only a few hours is insane. Modern methods can be incorporated to reduce the man hours put into Junkanoo and hence the cost. Secondly, at one time there used to be large numbers of tourists at the parades. Today the tourist numbers are scarce, to say the least. is this either because tourists do not want to pay to attend the event, or because of the crime element and violence at the parades they have been advised to stay away from the event. Persons may argue that you cannot put a price on culture but at least you can make the parades more effective, by increasing the number of paying spectators attending the event and/or reducing the cost of production.

But look at the picture above. Such a beautiful and complete edifice. Those allowing it to sit idle for THREE years should be jailed!

Seems like this John Bain and his accounting company has a lot of apologizing to do. If the PHA is using $8 million in alcohol they are in the wrong business. I don't I want to hire an accounting firm that produces a forensic report that has two simple errors that 'dozens' of accountants missed and caused a national miscarriage of facts.

Do you know there is mounting pressure in the US for that country to shut its borders because of the Ebola threat? Imagine Bahamians not being to travel to Miami in December to do their Christmas shopping. Apparently information is coming out that efforts by the Centers for Disease Control to stem Ebola in West Africa have failed and now the disease has mutated before reaching the United States. Personnel in charge are not sure they can contain the disease and this is leading to panic. What happens in the next few weeks, when the number of cases is expected to skyrocket in West Africa will determine what action Obama takes. Many feel that by then it will be too late to shut the virus out of the US on epidemic proportions.

***Mr Bain told The Tribune he “stands by his work” and said if Dr Minnis found errors that dozens of accountants missed then maybe he can “fix all the issues in the PHA”.***

I tried to bite this statement from many different angles but still could not find a way to chew on it, If John Bain, as a professional accountant, produces a report that incriminates or implicates someone of wrong doing and/or mismanagement and that person attempts to clear his/her name you going to say, 'if you can pick holes in a report that dozens of (professional) accountants missed then you capable of fixing all the issues and PHA." This is so non professional, and so 'hey we so together, we don't make mistakes'. attitude. An accountant's report of a public corporation is suppose to be up for scrutiny and if there are errors, they must be corrected. If there are clerical errors but they do not change the material findings of the report then that is all Mr. Bain had to say and/or invite Mr. Minis to review the report. Arrogance detracts from professionalism.

oil is noe at its lowest price in more than 10 years an is expected to fall even lower. When will we see a reduction in the fuel surcharge on our BEC bills? Should B.E.C have to pay each consumer a $30.00 penalty for each time the power goes off over 4 times a month? This will make some consumers 'rich' as some areas go off 20 times a day!

Our country has the resources to treat ***three ebola paitients*** with access to additional supplies from neighboring countries. Six million tourist coming here annualy from as far away as Ja Bim and you only can treat 3 paitients. What happens if everyone takes sick on an international flight coming from say "the East?". The cruise ships can always remain at sea. they have adapted a "wait and see'' attitude about postponing the Bahamas Junkanoo Carnival ( a name I suggested in this post months ago) and the IAAF track meet. Now that Ebola has reach the US shores ( for which many are blaming President Obama (he sent troops to Africa) more swift measures may come into effect to combat the disease.

The bad thing about the "Loretta Decision" is that if Mrs. Butler -Turner loses in her bid to become leader of the FNM, she will also lose her post as deputy leader. Since she indicated that the relationship between party leader, Minnis, and herself was strained, more than likely once re'elected leader, Minnis will spare no reasonable effort to ensure soneone more to his liking is chosen and Butler-Turner is defeated...if she is allowed to run for deputy.
