The last sentence is the problem. We are only getting one side of the story. Mr. Kyle Wilson has been proven wrong on several issues in the past. When this story first broke, the Minister said that the employees were going to be seconded to Bahamas Grid Company with the same pay and benefits for one year before deciding to stay or go back to BPL. At that time she suggested that there would not be any union issues. Therefore, BPL needs to respond to this issue.
Toby Smith attitude is what is destroying him. This could have been over a long time ago if Toby was willing to cooperate. Instead he decided to be rude and nasty. He had personal attacks on social media and in the press against both government members. He posted WhatApp messagers and private messages. Nothing was incriminating. Everyone was willing to work with him. His attitude was his way or no way. Then he had a vicious attack against RCI and Philip Simeon. Even they were asking him to sit down and work out a joint plan to share properties and guests. Toby even refused that. Brave Davis promised to sort him out once he reapplied and updated his proposal. This was after he lost the appeal case. He responded by attacking the government and applying to the Privy Council. He will definitely lose again. He will then go on a public campaign of attacking the government and RCI again making it appear as anti-Bahamian vs foreigners. It is time to turn that property over to a real developer.
This is great news for Freeport. There will be plenty of jobs and business opportunities. Freeport is slowly coming back to life. We need this same type of activity in the Family Islands.
It does not seem like BREA math is right. Bahamians now have up to a $600,000 exemption for owner-occupied triplexes and under. Then up to 1% on a sliding scale afterwards. The foreigners who occupy their property do not have any exemption but pay 0.625% of the total amount. So at the end of the day, who pays more? It is the foreigner.
The United States is full of hypocrisy. They want to police the world and tell them what is right and wrong, but they don't follow those same rules in anything. Tell them to stop using cobalt from Africa that comes from child labor. That is just the start. If they applied that same rule, their entire IT and military industry would shut down. Cobalt is used for everything related to computers, cell phones, and electronic products. It is time for the world to look past the US for trade.
This is awesome. We are finally moving in the right direction on energy reform. There is one section that is constantly ignored. That is privatizing the Clifton Pier operation. BPL needs to get out of the supply of energy completely and do a joint partnership. They also need to let go about 1,000 workers and be lean and efficient. Let's see if they have what it takes to go all the way.
Lincoln Bain says that there are billions and trillions of dollars being made from our salt trade. Well, why didn't he buy it? Salt production was down, and Morton Salt and the entire island were about to shut down and become like the Diamond Salt location in south Long Island. Business is business, and business must make sense.
This is awesome. This approach needs to be duplicated in more food-related areas. We import about $1 billion in food every year. We need to find ways to reduce that to grow the economy and reduce food dependency.
