You are missing the bigger picture. The international cry-baby organizations won't allow us to defend our country from invaders. Immigration has insufficient resources and authority to enforce laws limiting jobs to Bahamians only, where appropriate. We can't afford to put pictures on work permits. Then only way to defend the Bahamas and keep it for Bahamians, is to destroy the economy completely so that nobody wants to come here.
We have to stay here, because no other country will accept us as refugees. So, in that way, the Bahamas will be kept for Bahamians - which is a good thing.
"...he said, “is that no court system in the United States, in Australia, in Britain, in the largest countries in the world, no court system has the resources to bring to trial every criminal case that is filed. It simply cannot happen and it doesn’t happen anywhere in the world so plea bargaining becomes an integral part of the disposition regime for criminal cases."
So, in other words, the entire world is too poor (or spends too much money on their militaries) to afford trials to all of those accused. We can afford to pay out for huge police forces to arrest and/or charge people, but we cannot afford to provide those accused with a trial of their peers. Remember that graduates with law degrees basically work as dogs in law firms (sorting papers etc) until they "get called to the Bar". The Bar Association, just like the American Medical Association controls how many lawyers there are. The same is true for doctors. Any resource whose quantity is restricted, can control a higher price. That is why doctors and lawyers cost so much - as opposed to straw market vendors or conch salad makers. It is a price control situation (just in the opposite direction).
Countries like Canada and France and Japan and many others have seen a decline in their birth rates over the past 40 years (or so), and have taken to immigration to prop up their populations. This is one of the many reasons why people don't have children, increasingly. They know the world sucks and is not fit for human life and so they will not condemn their own children to live on this planet. The governments respond by saying, either you breed - or we will replace you with some other race and whatever among you are left will be a minority in their own country. Slaves must reproduce or suffer the consequences.
"I think the Chinese have about two vaccines out, the Russians have about two and a number of other countries such as Israel and other nations in Europe are developing vaccines as well, and whichever that WHO agrees to, that’s the one that we’re going to be using.”"
So in other words, all of our doctors in the Bahamas are just ignorant fools who know nothing about vaccines or medicine and we need to take order from the WHO ? Everyone can read between the lines here and know exactly what is going to happen. The Chinese will offer their vaccine to us at a very cheap rate, and our Govt will jump at the chance. China has long wanted our country for themselves, and that is much easier to obtain if there is nobody to object.
----
"But that’s just the larger freezer and we’re going to need the smaller ones to transport it to all the various islands and we’re attending once we get the vaccine to be able to deploy it to all the islands at the same time quickly"
Really? Why is it necessary for ALL islands to be vaccinated at the same time? I'm sure there wouldn't be any kick-back on those freezer purchases, right?
Bahamians cannot run a large hotel because it requires a LOT of staff to do so. Among those staff there are going to be family, friends, and lovers and family of lovers and friends of family, and lovers of friends - mixed every way. Hard to fire or even discipline people that way.
The Bahamas needs a HUGE injection of population to make our economy work. We also need Crown land to be freed up and made viable with power and water. On both fronts we get no traction. Government won't let anyone live and work here except Haitians, and the Crown land - well, if you're a Bahamian and you want Crown land you need to pray to God. It is reserved for "farming" so that Haitians can have control over it.
Until we bring an injection of good people here from Singapore, or Australia, or Japan, or India, or somewhere civilized that can bring our "average" up from a D and Bahamians can learn from and grow as a nation - then we are doomed to fail. We've being doing it for over 40 years and from most of what I read on here, we've got another 40 years of failure ahead of us, because the population simply does not want change, and does not want to admit that they need to improve.
That's a good idea. It could be sold to him for one dollar, with zero concessions except duty free status on imported construction and hotel items for one year only. Only God knows what these government people do all day long. I mean Pac Man has gone out of style. Are there new video games out there that I haven't heard about?
Poor Mr. Miller, if only he had fought for the right of Opposition Members to speak in the House back when he was a big-timer and the PLP was in power, he might have added an element of democracy to our country. As it stands now, he reminds me of poor Opposition MPs who are not allowed to speak without their agenda being approved by the PM (putting on the agenda). Even one of his own, Hanna-Martin, being tossed out of the House by the FNM did not even inspire the PLP to change the House rules under the second Christie administration. (Remember back when she was upset about the young man being hanged by his own belt in the Grove police station? She seemed to be the only one in Govt who cared about that young man. The question was whether or not it was suicide.)
All of these guys (including the current set) are only in favor of free speech, when their own speech is curtailed. When in power and have free speech, they do nothing to help the downtrodden. If you don't have money in this country to where you can afford a lawyer, you might as well be from Cameroon.
Too bad, too sad, for the barking pot cake. Welcome to the world of the average Bahamian, whose freedoms and rights are trampled daily. Police brutality, prison conditions, hospitals not even having blood pressure medication - those and many more issues were at your command while you were in power. They all remain with us today, us the ordinary suck teet Bahamians.
If we had 39 McAlpine's in the House, we might get something good done in this country. There would be regular meetings of the Public Accounts Committee for sure. What about those Public Accounts? LOL.
