The past two years have shown that our Constitution is a meaningless piece of paper in the eyes of the FNM and PLP, so I'm not surprised that either of them would try and trample over it further. Might as well do like Fred Mitchell and just burn it at this point.

LastManStanding says...

What was the turnout of the most recent election? Claiming that as a mandate to govern is like claiming the PLP was elected with popular acclaim this past September (they weren't).

Haha. "Reparations" already came 55 years ago. Pindling came to power and received control over a country that a.) had a booming economy b.) was not in debt, and was consistently running budget surpluses c.) had roads, airports, ports, and other infrastructure worth millions and d.) was not a crime ridden craphole like it is today, all while doing absolutely nothing to build it. Fast forward 55 years and here we have a.) a government that is a few years out from fiscal insolvency b.) the second pillar of offshore banking completely destroyed c.) a crime rate out of the wazoo and d.) completely dilapidated third world infrastructure in the non expat parts of the country. The black Bahamians have already received billions in reparations and have nothing to show for it.

I don't get why black Bahamians crying over this topic don't harass the Arabs the same way that they do white people. Oh wait, most don't even know that the Arabs took them as slaves because the Arabs were smart enough to castrate the ones they did have. I also find it hilarious how so many have this cry for "reparations" while flocking to "massa's" countries to try and build a life. I can fly to London right now and will not bump into a single white person in the streets once out of Heathrow. Same with Paris. Same with the GTA. Funny how "massa's" countries are being invaded by the same people crying for "reparations". What is also hilarious is how so many of the same ones crying for "reparations" are the same ones that can't wait to take on "massa's" titles. Funny how they all line up to receive titles such as MBE, OBE, and the rest. Guess that the British Empire was evil only when we need a handout to keep our failing government afloat, right?

Just reflective of our society at large. Not just downtown either, pretty much any area in New Providence not called Cable Beach, Lyford Cay, or Paradise Island looks like this (or worse).

Let's check out what 55 years of majority rule governments have brought this country : a fiscally insolvent government a few years out from a debt default, one of the highest murder rates worldwide, rampant crime and societal dysfunction, a D-average (actually F when adjusted for the lenient grading scale) populace, and no prospects of things ever getting better as the two main political parties are infested with the same kinds of parasites.

The elephant in the room that nobody wants to acknowledge is that the Bahamas would have been far better off as a nation under a UBP government. They absolutely had their own skeletons in the closet, but they were smart enough to know there wouldn't be any eggs to eat if they killed the golden goose. Needless to say, most of the governments since thought that the gravy train would never run dry. Well, it has.

It is truly the case. Bahamians literally just voted the very same PLP that they kicked out of office 4 1/2 years earlier back in. CoI was selling big time dreams, but at least they were fresh faces. At best, Bahamians could have at least forced a hung Parliament.

Ok, fine, I agree that there are plenty of shady individuals in the RBPF that are most likely using excessive force in their dealings with the public, but put yourself in the shoes of the officers here : how many murders have we had in the past week alone? Does anyone want to talk about how rowdy and unruly the Bahamian general public is? Officers regularly get assaulted and threatened with death in the line of duty, and we act shocked when they simply return the same treatment to the people who give it to them.

Unless you have worked as a security guard, LEO, or any position that deals with the baboonish general public, you have no idea what these officers go through on a day to day basis. Does it justify excessive force? No, but officers using excessive force is simply a symptom of a much bigger problem.

> When letters refer to history research is essential, not shooting from the hip.

Good advice that this writer should himself heed. Comparing Putin to Stalin is a massive stretch and illustrates the historical ignorance of this writer. Let me know when Putin plans a mass starvation genocide or opens up the gulags again. You can say that you don't like Putin, but emotions are clearly clouding the judgement of whoever wrote this.

To imply that the Cold War never came to a head because of NATO is simply false as well. We have never had WWIII break out due to the principle of Mutually Assured Destruction (MAD). The notion that the world has been at peace since 1949 is simple false as well. The Korean War broke out in the 50s, not mentioning the First Indochina War or the Malaysian Emergency what also happened around the same time period that the author specified. This is just around the nearby timeperiod, I'm not even going into other conflicts in later decades. The only reasons that Western European nations did not kill each other off was a.) they were too broke b.) nations like France and W. Germany were devastated enough already and c.) the threat of communism was dominant at the time. It is also worth noting that France got pissed and withdrew from NATO at one point in time as well. As the poster above mentioned, NATO created war in Yugoslavia the minute that the USSR collapsed as well. Libya is a disaster to this day and is currently a Russia-Turkey proxy war. NATO is just as imperialist as the British Empire, the USSR, or any great power that came before it.

Putin simply wants his borders secure; at the heart of any nation is the notion of self-preservation. Russia got duped into believing that NATO would not expand after the collapse of the USSR and woke up in 2004 when they took in the Baltic states. Taking in former Warsaw Pact nations like Poland or Romania were a slight provocation, but taking in former Soviet republics like the Baltic ones were a red line for Russia. Putin was not in a position to challenge the West then as he was still trying to right the country from Yelstin's "shock therapy". 20 years later, Russia is a lot more modernized.

Once again, this is a complex issue that maybe only 1% of people in the West truly understand. Watching CNN and NBC does not count as "research", nor do mainstream outlets provide any background on this situation. You have to go back 30 years to get an accurate picture of what is happening in Eastern Europe, and even then most of these conflicts are centuries old.
