The use of per capita is an internation standard in statistics. However, due to our small population the valuation will look extremely large compared to say Jamaica's. So our murders per capita with a population of approximately 350K will look to be higher than Jamaica with a population of approximately 2.7 million. For example, there were 1,486 murders in Jamaica in 2010 and 94 in the Bahamas. The murder rate per capita (for 100,000 persons) for Jamaica is 53 (app.) and for the Bahamas 27 (app.). (Calculation: #murder/(Total Population/100,0000)).
