If anyone is preoccupied with telling lies bunk and balderdash it's you. Why don't you address the facts before you blow your own pathetic little trumpet? Haitians are hard-working people. They work harder than the average Bahamian who sits idly by and do Jack Diddles all day. When we Haitians come over to work we work hard so we can support our people back home. There is plenty of work in the Bahamas but the average Bahamian is not prepared to work. You lot should be grateful that your Caribbean cousins, the Haitians are willing to do the work that you don't want to do. They pay taxes on top of that to help keep vital services going in the Bahamas. Although I am British I never see myself as British but rather a Caribbean man from Haiti and St Lucia respectively. I will never neglect my people in the Caribbean and will go out of my way to help them whenever possible. The Greatest man who ever lived on this earth once said 'Whatsoever you do to the least of my brother/sisters that you do unto to me. How can you call yourself a Christian country yet you do not have much love in your hearts for your fellow man? Christianity is about loving, caring, sharing and helping your fellow man/woman. That is NOT too much to ask. Afterall we are one people in the Caribbean. Viva Haiti!
You are writing utter bunk and balderdash. To even suggest that The Bahamas is not in the West Indies or the Caribbean displays your level of arrogance. You are pretty bombastic in your summary of the region. Your claim that the Bahamas is not in the Caribbean is nothing but "hyperbole" What do you and the many ill-informed Bahamians have against the Caribbean/West Indies? You lot are no better than the rest of the Caribbean. The Bahamas is part of the Caribbean geographically and like you said culturally whether you like it or not.
You see the British and the other colonials have fooled you lot people from the Bahamas into believing that you are better than the rest of us in the Caribbean. The Bahamas is in the northern Caribbean and is a member of caricom. We are all Caribbean people and should treat each other with respect and dignity. The Haitians are hard working people who contribute heavily to the Bahamian economy. They pay their taxes like everyone else which help to kick the vital services going. I can only concur that the reason why Bahamians keep saying that they are not in the Caribbean is simply too big up themselves and to look down on Caribbean people. The treatment that is being meted out to the Haitians is disgraceful and shameful. The Bahamas has very little people living in the many isles and should be grateful for the input of Haitians populating it's shores. The British used to say that they are not in Europe geographically- Now they cannot say this as there is a tunnel that links the UK to mainland Europe. England is in Europe now by virtue of the Mersey tunnel. You lot ought to be ashamed of yourselves for treating your fellow man in the awful way that you are currently doing. Haitians are good people and they should be given the respect they rightfully deserve. We are all equal under the sun. Unity is strength and together we achieve and together we aspire.
I am really taken aback by the poor characterization of Haitians in this forum. Why all the caustic remarks? The Prime minister of The Bahamas is simply trying to mend fences and to show solidarity to his people from the region. Haitians are hard-working people who have contributed much to the Bahamian economy. I have been to the Bahamas and did not have a pleasant experience over there. Apart from one young lady and her friend who treated me well after what I was going through in Nassau, there is hardly anything positive to write pleasantly about this place.
First, to begin with, you lot Bahamians refuse to acknowledge the fact that you are in the Caribbean or West Indies. You look down on the rest of the Caribbean/West Indies and that includes Haiti. We are all Caribbean/West Indian people and should reach out to each other regardless.I spent nearly two weeks in the Bahamas and I had a torrid time and could not wait to get back to Europe. I promise never to return to the Bahamas after what I went through over there. This was back in the late 90's and I have since changed my mind. I don't think it is fair to lump everyone together nor is it ok to tar everybody with the same brush. There are good and bad people everywhere. The Bahamas and Haiti are both Caribbean/West Indian nations and both it's peoples should be treated with respect and dignity. I have lived in Haiti and St Lucia as both my parents are from these two beautiful Caribbean isles. I was brought up in Europe and I am eternally grateful for that. I love both islands and have lived in both when I was younger. (Mum-St Lucian, Dad-Haitian) Haitians don't just go to the Bahamas for the sake of it. They go there for a better life. If it was the other way round where the Bahamas were in the situation that Haiti now finds itself in,A lot of Bahamians would find themselves in Haiti for a better life. People go where there is employment and better prospects for themselves and their families. The Bahamas should be proud of the fact that the Haitian people have singled them out as the land of milk and honey. This shows that the Bahamas is doing well economically and is an economic powerhouse to be reckoned with.
We have been through so much in Haiti. Starting from Our revolution and independence from the French to the many leaders who have let the country down. Haiti have had to pay reparation to the French and that money could have been used to help offset lots of projects which could have benefitted our splendid isle. As a Haitian-St Lucian, I do my best to help my folks in Haiti. I visit there frequently and help in any way I can. I help organize visas for our people to come to study in Europe. Give to the poor. Give to Schools. The list is endless. I see it as my duty as a citizen of Haiti and The Caribbean to help whenever possible. My people need the help. I am also working on a project to spread the Kweyol language throughout islands in the Caribbean where it's not being spoken.
