As a local Rotarian, I was very disappointed to read the somewhat uninformed comments about Rotary. Does ‘mudda take sic’ think that all the thousands of Rotarians in Africa, Japan, India and many other countries are white businessmen? I invite you to visit any Rotary club in Nassau, Abaco, Eleuthera or Freeport and take a look first hand at the makeup of the clubs. Rotary is a non-political and non-religious organization open to all people regardless of race, colour, creed, religion, gender, or political preference. It is a global network of 1.2 million neighbours, friends, leaders, and problem-solvers who see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change – across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves...and no, we aren't all wealthy! OMG to respond - As to our not working with local charities, all the clubs have joined with charities, we work closely with them year-round, including amongst many others – the Red Cross, Salvation Army, Cancer Society, Bahamas Association for the Physically Disabled, Heart Association, Humane Society, National Trust – the list goes on. Rotary and Rotarians have made a global impact, we have a seat at the United Nations and we came together with the commitment to eradicate the scourge of polio, this will happen in the next year or so and if that pads anyone’s report I’m proud! I was very disappointed to read the comments about Rotary and Rotarians, obviously from people who have no true understanding of what Rotary is really about. Does 'well mudda take sic' think that all the thousands of Rotarians in Africa, Japan, India and numerous other countries around the world are white businessmen? That was true of the U.S.A. when Rotary began over 100 years ago but things have changed. We still need to improve, nothing is ever perfect but Rotary is a non-political and non-religious organization open to all people regardless of race, color, creed, religion, gender, or political preference. I invite you to attend any club meeting in Nassau, Freeport, Eleuthera or Abaco and see first hand what a Rotary club is like. As for having no regard for local charities - the clubs work with most of them, including the Red Cross, Salvation Army, Bahamas Feeding Network, Humane Society, All Saints Camp, Cancer Society, Rotary started Project Read, Bahamas National Trust...and many many others. Rotarians across the world joined hands and minds and committed to the eradication of polio. We're almost there. In the next few years the world will be declared polio free. If that pads any kind of report, I'm proud!
