So we propose a tax on vehicle insurance -- Is that before or after VAT. A sin tax, what a joke when you see duty free liquor signs all over the place when in actuality liquor is much cheaper in the States. Home brewed national beer at $53 a case is just unbelievable and we are reaching the point of diminishing returns whereby customers simply stop buying anything but essentials.
How about a hook tax, given that Exuma normally has between 3-500 boats moored in and around the harbor during the winter months .Say $5.00 a night X an average of 400 boats is $2000 X 7 roughly$56,000 a month. Provide one or two people with A small power boat to collect and there is income for the country. Multiply that by other islands and it is quite sizable. How about enforcing a tax on holiday home rentals.
OH I forgot this takes a real interest, some organizing and monitoring. Sorry so stupid lets just tax the working class again until all the lights are off and citizens are starving.

Fuel prices at their lowest --electricity costs still as high as ever.
PM says Government will pay off BEC debt, then quietly says, that will add a cent or two to our bills.
No modern equipment, Therefore same fixed costs of operation .Debt starts to climb again.
The hundred dollar question is why on earth would any sane foreign company risk operating in an environment whereby they will be subject to political interference at every step and be the scapegoat when the power continues to go out.

Most rational and intelligent people have repeatedly stated that rather than us VAT revenue to pay down the National debt it will be used for all manner of ill thought out VOTE getting projects by the PLP. It is the incompetents that caused this problem than pretend that they can fix it. Not a chance in hell-devaluation is coming.

For those persons interested and our talented politicians (tongue in cheek) check out online the Daily Mail newspaper and scroll down to the UK coverage of the British dive instructor recently murdered. Then you will see scores of negative comments which in many cases are biased and untrue but convey a pretty bleak picture of the Bahamas. This one act and resulting publicity cancels out millions of dollars of tourism advertising. When will the politicians who wasted millions realize that all these new taxes are creating a large poor class who are struggling to eat let alone pay their light bill, 7.5% VAT on a $100 is nothing to a well heeled politician or wealthy family but it hurts the average man. Some of these murders ,robberies and acts of violence are the result of poverty, poor education and lack of opportunity.

Wow, PLP always spouted how the Bahamas was for Bahamians and to be run by Bahamians but interesting how they need foreigners when it suits them . Straw market burns down in Exuma -foreigners rush to the cash rescue. BEC total cockup-Have to call in foreigners. Teaching grade point average call in the Cubans.. Mind you one of the comments is so on the nail that this is a crafty political move because when everything goes wrong they have a scapegoat to blame. And 50% reduction in electricity costs-heard it before -will never happen.

This problem is the result of years of mismanagement , lack of foresight and investment. Nothing ever changes in this country, seminars, meetings, consultants and bullshit bullshit and more bullshit. Devaluation is coming but don't worry Christie and his cohorts will survive.

As much as I dislike Miller and his outright lies lets be honest and it is the fault of successive governments and lack of foresight in investing before and not after the fact. Having been in full time employment as a teacher I have seen horrendous misuse of money on schemes thought up over coffee by some unqualified jerk in the Ministry of education ,with no follow up and ultimate failure. This is repeated time and time again the latest being the BAMSI debacle. This is a very expensive destination and tourists and residents alike deserve a reliable power supply. Maybe invest the Carnival money into new generators and then later think about Carnival. The truth of the matter is that the politicians are financially secure and are after number 1 and their arguments etc are just to secure a well paid future.
Oh by the way Mr Miller where is the discount promised last year on our electricity bills if a customer paid on time ? and despite fuel prices being at an all time low my fuel surcharge is beyond belief.I forgot the corporation owes so much money that they cannot get cheaper fuel but I bet as oil prices rise so will the surcharge.
Third world rapidly descending to 5th world with our leaders who created all these problems saying they are the ones to fix them, Rather like a bankrupt business owner saying he will fix your business !!!!

On How are the BEC power cuts affecting you?
