If a bank decides to change its operating profile , so be it but to closes these accounts when so many never received the KYC notification and then for the customer to struggle to get their money out is downright wrong. Close the accounts after giving notice to the customer and transfer their money to the customers account of choosing. As for communications trust me they can find you if you owe them money.
If you read any UK tabloid you would be amazed at how many Trump supporters and others seem to think that eliminating Kim would be easy, surgical and over in a day or two whilst completely ignoring the fact that N. Korea would inflict terrible damage to S Korea with just their conventional weapons. Both sides are acting like schoolboys egging each other on yet not wanting to start the fight. Has nothing been learn't from Vietnam, Afganistan ?. Should the unthinkable happens then the Bahamas would suffer as would most countries. World war 3 could be started so easily.
RBC is a disgrace the way they are closing foreign homeowners accounts without notice. Furthermore I know Bahamians that are closing RBC accounts because of the nonsensical charges. Good riddance.
Interesting that when we have hurricane free years that we never hear from the these insurers, and generously reducing premiums. I can't afford it at present rates and could replace my roof for one years premium so save the cash and do it yourself.
Madhatter , appropriately named for exaggerating the facts. On Eleuthera , winter residents contribute a huge amount to the economy, employing, gardeners, maids, builders, mechanics, plumbers and so on. If they left as you say then the economy would be worse than ever.I do agree that there need to be a tightening up of rental units/houses as this is not a level playing field when you compare the overheads and legal hoops a legit hotel has to abide by. Your paranoid xenophobia is just what we need to further isolate this country and if you get rid of all the leeching foreigners then who will employ all the labour and better still pay. A friend of mine in business prefers the foreigners because they pay.I guess you also object to the millions donated by foreigners and companies and the volunteer work done, but who am I to say ?
So I cash a cheque at the RBC bank using a cheque issued by a customer of that bank. I am charged $16 for the privilege of passing that money across the counter. Daylight robbery. As for reducing long lines Mr Benneby, get on a plane to the USA or UK and see how fast tellers there deal with customers wheras here its like watching the dead perform.
I personally know of a winter resident who has a home here who had his account closed-no notification , was received. Its a bloody disgrace. If you owed them they sure as hell would find your address/ Just think of the free money the bank is using whilst they deal with this. It seems there is a determined effort on the part of many including banks to destroy this country. Congratulations you are succeeding.
You really talk some bullshit sheeprunner. First of all most of the well qualified teachers from the UK and the USA have been terminated in favor of Cubans so if you have a beef about quality talk to the Deputy Director who recruits these teachers. You talk about perks and as a long serving foreign teachers allowances. What allowances? Firstly any contracted teacher was entitled to a 15 % gratuity IN LIEU of pension. Let me explain.Your gratuity was your pension for years worked. If the expat chose to blow it on a car so be it , but the intention was that the expat upon completing his / her contract could put that money into a pension fund. Bahamians get their teachers pension at the end of their tenure. Furthermore lets be clear any expat teacher who decides to stay and remain (at the approval of the MOE) is non pensionable. That means if I work 35 years in this country and had two, two year contracts for 6 years then the remaining 29 years that I work DO not count for a pension. End result I did the same work as my Bahamian colleague for 35 years but on retiring I get a National Insurance pension wheras my native born colleague gets a teachers pension and national Insurance pension.Perk no discrimination. You say Perks ? Expats however long they have served, however dedicated or hard working they are are usually excluded form promotions etc. As for being better qualified that is nonsense ,there are good and bad Bahamian and expat teachers but the difference between the British or USA teacher and the Cuban teacher can be significant.Cuban teachers come here, do not integrate, spend as little as possible, go home loaded with I pads, cell phones tools etc and often cannot be understood by the schoolchildren. Blame your Director for that.
Such truth. In speaking with many Bahamians so many as a last resort say" well we have great beaches and sunshine". True but a failure to recognize that so many other countries have the same and much cheaper. Its possible to fly long distances to exotic destinations often cheaper than the airfare to the family islands. In the same vein as air B and B the winter residents contribute huge amounts to the economy through, maids, gardeners, grocery shopping, car repairs and licensing/insurance etc etc yet they are often taken for granted. Make the process of paying property taxes simple, why all this you can stay for 30 days and then have to go for an extension, what real benefit is a homeowners card ? . Believe me when I say that so many winter residents have had enough and are leaving. As an aside why not charge a"hook tax"on the 3-500 tourist boats moored in George Town harbor after all they benefit from water on the dock to garbage bins on the dock , free fishing. If you can afford an expensive yacht or cruiser you can surely afford $5 -20 a night for the privilege.
