We need to compliment the hard working BEC workers on Eleuthera who were working at midnight and today to restore power and BTC for their kind gesture. Having said that out politicians should be condemned for their free spending , lack of foresight and the financial problems that are going to emerge. Mind you they are OK with their US properties and overseas bank accounts. This is only the tip of the financial crisis that is going to happen and Bahamians need to wake up to the self centered self serving people who run this country.

You would think that any right thinking government would put aside 5-10 million every year as an emergency fund but no they waste a collective 20 million on a stupid Carmival. What idiots we have ruining this country.

OMG says...

Your deluded DAS. If your God is all powerful. then he could stop or redirect these storms saving lives but you expect this God to protect Bahamians. Totally illogical.

OMG says...

Bet some government ministers wish they hadn't squandered over twenty million on two Carnivals money that will soon be needed. What the hell borrow some more after all devaluation etc is on the horizon anyway.

OMG says...

Bet they wished they had saved the 10 million wasted on carnival for damage that Mathew will create.

Eleuthera has two all volunteer ambulance and fire services funded entirely by fund raising and donations. I am told there is zero financial assistance from the Government and yet money can be found for countless overseas trips, carnival and jobs for the boys. And more money will be diverted from essentials to the upcoming election.

I am saving US dollars because the writing is on the wall. All our VAT, ludicrous hazardous waste taxes, extra customs charges, high airport taxes have gone to waste and this backward government still borrows. Maybe when (not if) devaluation comes Bahamians will protest with their feet and at last grow some balls. As it is the government benefits from the lack of understanding of these dire financial situation by the majority of the working class.

Consultants, consultants that's all we ever hear. How about a government plane to fly poor sick Bahamians to the capital. Currently on one family island it costs $3000 for a 20-30 minute flight.

The fact is that the Bahamas cannot compete with agricultural methods used in other countries. Furthermore look at the dairy farm in Hatchet Bay Eleuthera which went downhill after being Bahamianized. As for Sawyers and Alburys all it took was for some rapid action on the part of the Government to reduce duty on items imported by Alburys for production and increase duty on imported products . That way you save jobs.
