Since when were residents of Lyford, Old Fort & Albany "Bahamians"??
Since you have proven yourself a cretin, let me explain this to you too: the average Bahamian earns $21,000/ year. The average American $54,000. Since the average Bahamian can hardly feed himself on $21,000, every $1 he loses gambling is actually someone in his family going hungry or a rent not being paid, or an electric bill. Or a crime he has to commit to get it back. In short: total misery. If an American loses $1, no big deal...he can afford to lose it. So, there is no racism here. Just poverty. Bahamians cannot afford to gamble. As simple as that. The government is right in trying to prevent them. When you can afford it, by all means, lose as much as you want.
John, you are a cretin if you don't see what the problem is.
Even worse is if you see the problem and you still write what you write. It means that your ass has been bought by the numbers boys and you will talk through it, singing for your supper.
Let me put it in very simple language, so, if you are a cretin, you have a chance of understanding me: Bahamians don't gamble in casinos. They gamble in the numbers houses. So, there is no "sin tax" to be collected from the casinos and if taxes were upped on them, no Bahamian would gamble less. So yes, it is discriminatory. In FAVOR of Bahamians. The less Bahamians gamble and lose, the better it is for them.
How about you fire fifty obese civil servants each and every month? Believe me, at the speed they move, no one will ever notice they gone. Not even their co-workers.
1. If they downsize because less people gamble: GOOD. Up the tax even more. Let the leeches find real jobs.
2. If they downsize because it goes underground: who the hell is going to run these underground operations? Surely these same people you let go, no? Arrest them and send them all to break rocks on Inagua.
Here is one suggestion. First lower the maximum salary in Government and the Civil Service to 2 times the national average. That would make the maximum salary $50,000.
Then work out how much that would save and fund the remainder with VAT increases.
There is absolutely nothing and I repeat nothing in the Constitution or any other legislation that would even remotely support a judicial review of tax rates duly voted on and passed by Parliament. On any sector.
If a judge were to uphold any suit, or do anything but summarily dismiss this case, it would be tantamount to a coup d'etat by the web shop owners and you would know 100% that they had bought the judge. In that case I would bring out the RBDF and RBP, declare martial law and arrest the judge and all web shop owners and operators.
This will be a test if we are a country or a third world shithole. I fear I know the answer.
Are we short of office locations? No. Are we short of retail locations. No. Are we short of hotel accomodation? No. Are we short of any kind of real estate that actually makes money and people want to pay for with real money? No.
Quite the opposite, we have far too much of everything and what we don't have is because no one can afford it.
Therefore nothing will get done because there is no demand for anything. No demand = no money = no investment = no activity.
You can watch the dereliction for another 10 years. Far better bet than anything will get done.
We might be Bahamian, but we are not utter morons, surely. The average speed of a cruise ship is 20 knots, say 23mph. If the average trip is 3 days, that means a maximum of 2 days sailing with 1 day ashore. 24hrs X 2 X 23mph / 2 (return) = 552 miles. Theoretical maximum range. But don't forget sea conditions and extra fuel expenditure, so they would NEVER want to go that far.
Distance of Little San Salvador from Miami? 340 mph. They might be able to go another 100, but that is it. 100 is still wayyyyyyy inside Bahamian territorial waters.
What utter nonsense, served up for all the morons without a map. The vast majority of cruises are 3 to 5 day cruises. From Miami. Where they gonna get to in 3 days from Miami and back? Obviously whoever cooked up that story got an E in Geography at school.
