He has been charged with a crime: being an illegal immigrant.

Where should they have put him up? In Baha Mar?

The Judge's order has been respected to the full. He is back. Now the process of determining his status can commence. If he is found innocent, he will receive citizenship and compensation. If guilty, he will be deported. What exactly upsets you?

OldFort2012 says...

I disagree.

The illegal part of his deportation was that there was no court order. He is claiming that he is Bahamian and has produced certain documents to prove it. He has a case. It might be strong, it might be weak, it might be non-existent but he has a case that a judge should examine. He is entitled to his day in Court.
He now has been brought back as per Court ruling. He will now have a chance to argue against his deportation as an illegal immigrant in front of a Court.
As a suspected illegal immigrant, he is subject to arrest. He was properly arrested and charged. Bail will be decided on, then a trial date will be set.

This is perfectly normal and exactly what I would have done. In this case, I would commend the Government for doing what is legal and logical.

The way people seem to be outraged by this Jean-Rony case, he had better have 24/7/365 police protection on his return or he surely will not live to see a single appeal take place?

Indeed. Better to apply for a job in the Bahamian Space Program. Sounds like exciting work.

I find it incredible that as a nation we are such a bunch of incompetents.

It should be obvious to anyone with 2 brain cells that Immigration cannot deport. That is the job of the Courts. And while the Constitution is so ambivalently written and open to all sort of interpretations, no Court will deport.

Call a referendum, change the Constitution. This can be done in 1 month. No chance it does not pass. Wording changed to "children of **legal** immigrants" born here are Bahamian.

Then situate an Immigration Court at Fox Hill & Carmichael and get on with the job of deporting them. legally.

The Law is the Law. The arses are the ones who passed the Law. Since Parliament passes laws in your name, the arse is you. And me.

OldFort2012 says...

And that is supposed to mean something?

Thank God we still have Judges who apply the LAW as it stands, otherwise there would be no difference between the Bahamas and Haiti.

If you do not like the ruling, change the law. You know who your MP is. Get a pen and paper and write him a letter.

A holistic approach starts with securing the border and making sure no more come.

With today's advanced drone & many other technologies, securing the southern approaches is not difficult or expensive. I have never understood what the RBDF are doing on New Providence. Defending us from the USA? Move them to Inagua & Crooked and hermetically seal the drugs and people routes.

Oops. I forgot that the smugglers paid for your election campaign, so....forget the above. Silly suggestion.

Nice bunch of headlines today: the dump is burning, the shanty towns are burning, police raid gun trafficking gangs, police shoot a blind man and girl gangs murder at will.

We try to prove every day that it's better in the bahamas.
