I don't gamble. Neither do I go to any church nor do I believe in any God. I have nothing against people who do and fully respect their right to believe. I do find it odd though that the biggest believers (declaratively) are also the biggest gamblers. Must be so! Everyone in this country falls over themselves to proclaim their "Christian values" and then goes and gambles every penny they have. Conclusion is simple: either no one truly believes or they are hypocrites. Either way, "the Church" has failed society utterly. I think it is time we told all these self-appointed "reverends" & "bishops" to go and sit very small. For this is a mess they have helped create over 50 years of failure to educate their flock.
I would like to take this opportunity to publically state that I think President Donald Trump is doing a great job and that he is not in the slightest bit racist. I would happily vote for him if the US were to grant me citizenship. Thank you. PS: great job in Iraq, Afghanistan and wherever you are planning on invading next. Right on, brother!
In no way did I mean to suggest that Bahamians are dumb or that they cannot be trained or taught. However, here is my personal dilemma: I could employ 2 people to write code for me today. Salary $50k. No one applied. So I hired a company in the US and am monitoring their daily progress online. Not only do I not have the time to teach someone to code, I do not have the detailed knowledge. I know what to do with the code but not how to teach someone to produce it. I presume there are very few people (if any) who could teach coding to an adequate standard. We definitely need structured help in that department and my comment above regarded those "teachers". No one would be happier than me if we had hundreds or thousands qualified software engineers available in the Bahamas. I would save a fortune.
An excellent idea. The Minister is right: this COULD be our future. But for this kind of project to succeed it needs more help than just a low or no tax regime. Software developers from around the world need to be attracted and retained. They have families. Those families need SECURE and adequate accommodation, a low crime environment and good private schooling. All things that GB lacks. The Minister and the Government now need to focus on helping to provide those. That will be a great challenge.
Had I produced this diatribe for my English professor, I would have received a D- and would have been sent to the back of the class. I can understand Tal being illiterate but this guy claims to be a QC. I make no comment on the content of this letter as everyone is free to express their opinion, however asinine. But do try to write it in cogent English. Either that or let us stop claiming to speak English.
I see that your grandmother's wisdom was not genetic. But on one point you are quite right: we are not a banana republic. For one, we are not a republic. Second, we have no bananas. At least since BAMSI's were levelled by Matthew.
Of course, this is all empty talk and absolutely nothing will happen in reality, whatever the Government decides to do.The idea that Bahamians would accept a National Lottery after they experienced the product of the number houses is like thinking that you can feed a wolf on vegetables after he has gorged himself on meat for years. And be happy. Isn't going to happen. The "product" pushed by the numbers houses is so superior to the National Lottery product that people will simply not want it. If they make the numbers houses illegal, they will simply stop paying taxes and still supply the product from the shadows, like they did for years. There is nothing that can be done, we are where we are, so let us admit it and stop talking bollocks. The status quo is the best we can hope for.
