Again, you have flown over the point. They can speak their minds. Decisions are made by consensus and majority rules. The majority supports this decision and all those who disagreed should fall in line. If at every turn they find themselves at odds why stay in the party? I am not debating the validity of their arguments. I am questioning the integrity of their decision to remain in the party who in their words is so flawed.
Socrates is correct. I fear many of us do not understand the Westminister system and confuse it with other democracies across the world. This is not the U.S. I am not suggesting this transaction does not result in a conflict of interest. I am merely speaking to the statements made by the 4 ministers in the HOA. If they find themselves fundamentally misaligned with their party's direction, the honorable, right and proper thing to do is what others like Wells and Dupuch have done and leave the party.
I am not rendering an opinion on where the government move its post office operations. It is a conflict of interest. That's not an opinion. It's a fact. My concern though is what are we doing with all of these condemned government owned buildings? We have a set behind McDonald's on Bay Street. We have the one on Thompson Boulevard. The other building on Shirley Street opposite Bank of the Bahamas. Now the post office on East Hill Street and I am sure this is not a comprehensive listing. Will there ever be a plan to get these upgraded or blown up and start from scratch to use the property and re-build? Does any administration ever think long term and not confine everything they do within the 5 year term with the hope that it's enough to win re-election? I'll wait.
I love that the minister is examining the entire system and taking a holistic approach in addressing its deficiencies. Patchwork is what have us where we are now as a nation. Time for real change. 20 years on a work permit means that organizations are not living up to their commitment to train Bahamians to fill these roles over time. In two decades a company could have sent a high school graduate off to college. He or she returns with a degree and work his/her way up the ladder and own the role. That's a high school graduate. So people already two or three tiers away from the post should be able to accomplish as much in less time.
I can be jailed for not paying taxes but the administration is free to squander it without consequence or accountability. Did the cabinet sit down and think this through thoroughly? It was being challenged on every hand. While Minnis doubled down that was time to double check.

I love the analogy. The outcome is predetermined. Ergo, the so called debate is a mere formality.
