The PLP doesn't want a Freedom of Information Act, because the people would see exactly how corrupt they are. Period.
This paper, The Tribune, should be at the forefront, day and night, in demanding a FOIA.
Without it, this paper CANNOT claim to print the truth.
We know ALL governments lie.
This government, with no Freedom of Information, is among the very worst.
Clearly, they are NOT acting in Bahamians best interest. They are working for themselves.
The only way they can get away with this corruption is by making sure the public is uneducated and uninformed of how poorly they are leading this country.
Criminals never want the truth to be told.
If they were truly working for, and representing The People, they would be crowing this from every roof top.
We are fools if we believe a word they say, without proof and accountability.
Get with it Tribune. You are not able to do your job without a robust Freedom of Information Act.
Can you say otherwise? Would you dare?

I am doing my best to see where technology has truly, truly helped our country's people.
Most of the time, the technology which has supposed to help, has only added more confusion and theft of our valuable time.
BTC is supposed to help bring that technology to life.
What a joke.

"This is the second time police have highlighted surveillance footage showing Isaacs at a press conference, but it remains unclear where he is."
Which press conference was Isaacs seen at?
When was the first press conference Isaacs was seen at?

I like it when people speak the truth.
As you have here.

The very idea of a rules based international order, as well as, any consideration of real democracy would include taking into consideration the will of the world's people.
The UN has been shaped and used by the US as a bludgeon to further its own hegemonic goals and desire for world domination.
When a country's leadership uses the phrase full-spectrum dominance, and spends over a trillion dollars annually to seek its objectives militarily, that country should be held to account and ostracized by the world community.
Mr. Saunders, if the US gave Barbados to the Jews, what would you say?
The history of the state of Israel is really not that complicated to those who read, and are fair-minded.
Britain "gave" Palestine to the Zionists. A country where the Palestinians had been living for perhaps a few thousand years. This is all well documented. The Original Sin was committed by your beloved west, leading to the expulsion by terror and murder of 750,000 people. This isn't ancient history, Mr. Saunders.
Those of us who were "educated" in the west, such as yourself, I suspect, have been poisoned by the Zionist propaganda from childhood. Hasbara, yes?
October 7, if one understands, and respects, international law, was a legal resistance to the open air concentration camp which Palestinians have been held captive in for far too long.
Reasonable people understand this and feel this.
The Zionists have poisoned the world with their rewriting of history and outright and continuous lies.
Israel cannot be trusted. We should protect all people of all faiths.
However, Israel has no right to exist. The world should reconsider this error the west made.
Clearly, there is no connection, historical or genetic, of the Jewish people and Palestine. Simple DNA tests would confirm this. The Palestinian people had nothing to do with the German Holocaust of the Jews, gypsies and other non Aryan people. They do not deserve to suffer because of the west's mistakes.
Your attempt at fairness and diplomatic consideration fell far short of justice and impartiality, Mr. Saunders.
What if the Brits had "given" the Jews Barbados?
As many Jews the world over are saying loudly and clearly, there is no connection between Judiaism and Zionism.
Obviously, Mr. Saunders, you are well aware of the danger to your career were you to mention these truths..

Disney is doing what the government has failed to do.
Of course Disney needs to produce 90% of their own power.
I wonder how many "Bahamian companies" will be owned by politicians and their relatives?
See article on Water & Sewerage.

Electricity off, water off, sometimes BTC off, no leadership in sight.
No leadership whatsoever.
As KB says, Jokey Leaders.
Stuffing their own pockets, while their people perish.
Those who can read, see this day in and day out in this very paper.
And no comments allowed for Adrian's escapades.
A country, or a circus?

Hope and pray has been tried before.
Actually, that is all we have left, since the entire country seems corrupted beyond redemption.

Porcupine says...

You are exactly right.
Further, we have no idea of what collateral has been put up to secure these loans.
As well, the Structural Adjustment Programs in store for The Bahamas will create chaos, social unrest and certain impoverishment for the majority of Bahamians in this country.
Halkitis, Simon, Davis and the whole ignorant PLP administration are a major part of this problem.

Porcupine says...

"If fiscal and financial market conditions worsen in the medium-term, The Bahamas could face difficulties in reducing these large financing needs.” Michael Halkitis, minister of economic affairs, told yesterday’s media briefing at the Prime Minister’s Office that rising global interest rates had resulted in the Government incurring higher-than-expected debt servicing costs on its US dollar debt."

And, with impeccable timing given that the Government unveiled its 2024-2025 Budget just 48 hours ago, the IDB joined those voicing scepticism that it will meet even its revised deficit and other estimates for the current 2023-2024 year that closes at end-June.

However, the Davis administration has repeatedly contradicted the IDB’s stance by stating that it has no plans for new and/or increased taxes and, indeed, the 2024-2025 Budget contains no such proposals.

It is unclear how the IDB has formed the conclusion that the Government “recognises” that tax compliance and enforcement measures will be insufficient by themselves to meet its fiscal goals.

Here's what we can say for sure. All governments lie.
When the public becomes so ignorant that they cannot do math or ask the pertinent questions, leaders such as those we currently have in place in The Bahamas, can and do lie with little to no push back, even from our business news reporters.

Currently, we are at the mercy of a group of ill-suited "financial experts" who already have made plans for abandoning this country, just like when they need medical care. The Bahamas is in for a rough ride these next few years due solely to the selfish group of politicians and advisors who only think about their own self interest.
Quite frankly, while not pleasant to say, The Bahamas is screwed.
Whether from the effects of the next hurricane, the collapse of our fisheries, the collapse of our infrastructure, rising global interest rates, or a number of other factors we haven't yet encountered, or considered.
We have allowed the Bahamian public to become so ignorant and corrupt that our children do not have a chance in hell of calling The Bahamas home in the coming decades.
The writing is on the wall, if we could find anyone to read.
