Let's be honest. BOB is struggling. It was not just poor management. It was theft and corruption, by our own people. $300,000,000.00 is no laughing matter to have lost. On our Family Island, we have only BOB two days a week, for a total of 9 banking hours a week. This morning, 25 -30 people in line before the bank opened. We have complained about this, and many other issues with BOB management for years now. Hire another teller, for God's sake. Lunch time only one teller? We must do better for our people. BOB is costing our community in too much lost productivity just standing in line. This is our national bank? Come on BOB. You can and should do better for the Bahamian people. Have you ever been to a bank in the US? Ok then. What's our problem?
No matter what. No matter where the blame lies, or who is in bed with whom. This will not leave The Bahamas smelling like roses. This is becoming a pattern. Yes or no? Either by accident, or on purpose, we seem to be challenged when it comes to judging character.
All of this is salacious, headline grabbing, as it should be, However, the bottom line is this, "What will this end up costing our country? Not just in today's dollars, but in reputation, goodwill, confidence, and future investments" There could not be a more robust and total reason for the current government to step down. Perhaps prior to their indictment. All suggestions by the experts point to a massive failure by The Bahamas officialdom. Worse, it may even tip the scales toward criminality at the highest levels. Am I wrong?
"The prime minister also addressed concerns about the future of the nation’s digital asset management sector in view of FTX’s collapse, insisting that he had every confidence The Bahamas will emerge from proceedings related to FTX with an enhanced reputation as a solid digital assets jurisdiction."
"He also said government officials have not identified any deficiencies in the nation’s regulatory framework that could have prevented FTX’s implosion."
No doubt, as the various jurisdictions involved unravel the actions that led to this moment, we will be among the first jurisdictions to gain and put to use valuable insights, allowing us to further strengthen our framework.”
Just like we did for Fyre Festival, OBAN, Baha Mar, (BPC) Bahamas Petroleum Company, and on and on and on.
Don't be worried about The Bahamas reputation, Mr. Davis. The rest of the world is quite well aware of how we operate. Try cashing a Bahamian check in another country, or using a Bahamian issued credit card online. So yeah, please opposition, do not besmirch our stellar reputation.
If this was so well regulated, and so promising for The Bahamas, why weren't Bahamians told that they should go all in personally? Like we do for our national low risk web shop gaming, where ALL Bahamians are winners.
So much can be revealed about our national problems by listening to the PM's remarkable remarks. Everyday is a New Day, more surreal and ridiculous than the day before. Politics has now triumphed the good of the people. It is just a show now, where little men wave their little things all about. The Bahamas cannot move forward so long as we are wedded to the childish mentality and immature posturing of those we call FNM and PLP. It appears we are a nation of children.
