You missed climate change, and a near guaranteed 1 foot sea level rise within 30 years, accelerating more after that. But, there is some good news. We have not completely decimated our seafood stocks, yet. That's one. But, we do have a disconnect with reality and an honesty problem. Our politicians are a reflection of our society. Need I say more?
People will be rushing here from all over the world to study what happened to our brains here. That we are even considering allowing this company to step foot in The Bahamas is proof positive that we truly have no future. As a country, we appear brain dead. But, no correlation between education and religious belief, hey?
For all practical, and honest, purposes, BOB went belly up. You don't lose a couple of hundred million without finding out where it all went. Since there are very few consequences for bad behavior here, we merely are following precedent. Dishonesty is now normalized throughout our country. From top to bottom. Since we have no freedom of information here, we will not be warned of when BOB takes down the rest of our country. NIB money is at very high risk, along with our credibility, or what's left of it. Bottom line. BOB went bust due to poor and corrupt management, and the taxpayers of The Bahamas have to eat the losses. This is a true story. Sad, but true
So, we demand financial regulatory relief from the EU. Our PM stands there all proud and righteous to ask for (demand?) money to combat the effects of climate change. And, we are taking out loans and grants to do the things we should have done years ago. Family Island clinics are worse than "dire" One Family Island clinic just temporarily moved, again, after 8 years now of having begun renovations at the old clinic. Now, it sits in utter disrepair. The problem with moving is that someone forgot to move the phone to the new location. No phone. No calls to the temporary clinic. Not even a cell phone contact. We are jokey. As far as climate change reparations go, we have known about what is coming for decades now. Just like we know what causes these NCDs. Bottom line is we don't read, we don't plan, and most importantly, it seems we just don't give a shite. Our government is a reflection of who we are. Why would we demand more from this government than is available on any street corner in Nassau? Politicians are bullshiters. Most every one of them.
Mr. Young, You are one lost soul. It is difficult to even begin where you are so wrong on so many points. Let's start with the idea that a monarchy, any monarchy, should exist in 2022, outside of fairy tales. Have you looked at the overall stats on Britain's quality of life indexes? Do you realize that many people will be dying from the cold and hunger this winter? Remember how much of the world Britain controlled? How much money, loot and lives they stole from the rest of the world? And, where Britain is now? Looking good over on that side of the pond to you, Young? Reaganomics and the Thacherite TINA neo-liberal assault on humanity are only held up by those who refuse to open their eyes to see what these "policies" have done to their people. Further, economic inequality is now know to be at the root of so many social ills, health ills and the crumbling of democracies around the world. How ignorant or greedily dishonest do you have to be to ignore all these major "discoveries? No Mr. Young, you are given a voice because you represent the 1% and nothing more. Voices like yours are the very ones standing in the way of human progress. And, please don't say you are a Christian. We can put an end to that idea in very few, yet honest, words.
Columbo, Turn off Fox News. It is hurting your brain. Every major scientific institution recognizes it is not just the climate. We are shutting down the life support systems of earth. If you are so ideologically wedded to death and destruction, that is your fate. However, some of us choose to think for ourselves. In general though, just like those people on the Titanic, claiming she is unsinkable, as it lists, you are irrelevant. You need to be ignored.
The gravity of history, dear editorial writer, is slanted toward the oppression of people in favor of strongmen. Until the people of the world understand our mutual solidarity, the strongmen will write history as they see fit. The people of the world. the vast majority of humanity, are completely neglected. Instead, individuals with money and power shape the world, and history, to suit their own selfish interests. No government, Chinese, US, or any other, truly cares about people. It is a geopolitical game to them, where individuals are sacrificed for a countries leader's ego. There are few exceptions. The statistics are clear. Wealth inequality, dissolution of democracies everywhere, the rise of ignorance and stupidity. This is happening everywhere. If there is evil in the world, it is embodied in the world's current "governments". Evil, at a scale we see in global governance, has not yet been firmly established in the hearts of the world's people. But, that time is soon upon us. The Chinese government, along with the US, is as corrupt, blind to human rights, and predatory upon its people as any that exist. Quit lecturing us on fairness, justice, and political posturing. History, real honest history, is quite clear on the willingness of most every government to sacrifice their people for shows of ego and proclaimed power.
We, in The Bahamas, are virtually impotent, intellectually, morally, and practically to rise to any occasion. We have failed to instill a respect for our natural resources. We have abjectly failed to educate our kids to think. We want them to believe. Believe in some mean man-god, some crooked politicians. Belief is fine. For certain things. Things that don't contradict reality. We have embraced a disgusting form of Capitalism and a misguided form of Christianity. We have no right to ask others to help us when we haven't bothered to help ourselves. Davis is a very poor spokesman for justice and environmental equity. The bus is headed for the cliff. The brakes don't work. We are now arguing for someone else to build a strong guardrail, instead of realizing the reality in front of us.
We can't pick and choose our environmental fights. Where is the concern over AUTEC killing whales and dumping untold toxic substances into The Tongue of The Ocean? Where the concern over Rubis dumping gas into the water table? How about the toxic dump in New Providence? The proliferation of cars spewing all sorts of poisons on this little island? How about the continued export of conch? Sure to devastate our stock. It is difficult to find an honest environmental advocate these days. They are wedded to the status quo of money and power. The BNT is the worst. Environmental lawyers come next.
