I like Mr. Sears perspective.
However, he didn't mention web shops.
Without eliminating those, no progress will be made in The Bahamas. Absolutely none.

Porcupine says...

Have to agree with the premise, as well as, the characterization of the web shop owners.

Do we fear fear, or the inability to be fed?
A reasonable question, isn't it?
Are our elected officials up to the challenge? Morally, intellectually?
Just asking.
Also, if we can't do the math, why would we understand the importance of social distancing?
It's just another rule to be gotten around.
Standing in line with someone at the ATM that you know is supposed to be in quarantine?
Hold my tongue? Doesn't matter what is said, our fate is in another's hands. And, it ain't God this time.

Porcupine says...

That we are at this point is the shame.
No accounting for the lost opportunity costs.
Imagine if we took the time to address real issues once and for all?
Perhaps we could move forward as a country.

We have long talked about the direct impacts of a very poor educational system. When the family, schools, churches and governments continue for decades to place little emphasis and less resources towards educating our people, it is about more than just losing the ability to get a job. Stupidity, irresponsibility, and lack of empathy all take their toll on a society. Is this not evidenced here?
I don't blame the police for this. I blame all of us for allowing idiocy to reign supreme in this country.
Here it is front and center.

I agree with the necessity to do this. The problem is that the police are able to grant exemptions to anyone who convinces them that they must travel between the Family Islands and Nassau. They do this regularly. Put all the lockdowns in place that you want Dr. Minnis. But when you allow the police to make exceptions based on their superior intelligence, don't you think we have a problem? We have not followed the prescribed precautions. We have only been lucky, not smart. Remove the ability of the police to grant any exceptions to your rules. They have not the authority nor the expertise to do what they are presently doing. I know for a fact that the police in Nassau have granted permission to people from Bimini and Nassau to come to Andros. In one case, they did not even inform the captain of the mail boat, allowing these people to stow away. Not cool. Any reasonable person would fire the police who allowed this. What is considered necessary travel seems to be based on money. Is this possible?

Mr. Albury says,
"As the world works to end this COVID-19 health crises, we are going to need new ideas, creative inventions and ingenuity to thrive in our communities, industries and countries at large. We need you—the youthful and energetic and bold new graduates to help us find ways to do things better. To better serve this planet by becoming champions of climate change, poverty, human rights, socio-economic inequalities and joblessness among the youth."

Thank you Mr. Albury.
Your words are right on the mark.
To better serve this planet also means to better serve all of us.
