A disorderly way of making meaningful measures has an element of appeal to some, as well. Which is a more likely scenario?

There is only one answer.
Face the realities, as set forth in this editorial, and realize that we are on our own.
In the Family Islands, independent solar and alternative renewable energy sources are our only solution.
We now realize we cannot depend on the Bahamian government.for anything.
In a few months time all of us will need to face this reality, and will see this clearly.
BPL is only the first of many government institutions that WILL fail.
Poor planning and many acts of God will expose our slackness for all to see.
Many will suffer. Only prayers will help us now, because we did not act like adults in dealing with the many crisis facing this nation.
The social consequences are going to be immense.

Good riddance.
Perhaps those same investors could put their money with a solar development plan for The Bahamas. In this state of emergency, why can't the government rearrange our energy production towards renewable energy?
This is time for a reset. On everything. Even if it means changing our form of government, to one that actually works.
But, most certainly for a forward-looking method of generating electricity for our country, and certainly for moving ourselves around Nassau in gas guzzling, poison producing automobiles.
Perhaps a workable, economic, and efficient way of moving a few hundred thousand people in a more sensible manner.
With this crisis could come opportunity.

I like that. It made me smile. And, you are right. However, as in India and other places sometimes the mob gets a bit carried away. To say the least.

I agree. I do not believe we can, nor should, lock people up, as in some countries. I am only looking at the solutions at hand. I believe in freedom of speech, of movement, of ideas. Yet, to have these things requires people are brought up to speed on our responsibilities, as well. With freedom, comes responsibility. When a society has more than a handful of fathers who don't "check" for their kids you can be assured that responsibility is NOT their national strength.

Mr. Wilson is correct.
We must rebuild. But, more importantly is that we must redesign our economy. That is the only REAL opportunity for The Bahamas.
The Bahamian economy must be redesigned so that many more Bahamians share in the wealth.
Every credible scholarly report on the health and welfare of the world's people identifies wealth inequality as a major factor in outcomes. This should surprise nobody. So long as capital is allowed to concentrate into fewer and fewer hands, the world will become a more unfair, unhealthy and unChristian place.
It is no surprise that those who are the most outspoken against measures to level the playing field in this manner are those who have managed to game the present system we have in place. There is nothing natural about the present state of affairs.
We do not have a system that rewards innovation, hard work and honesty. We have in place globally, a system that rewards short-term selfish thinking, and a competitive, rather than a cooperative way of doing business.
The whole system sucks. But, listening to the likes of Mr. Wilson, one would think that those in positions of power, those with the money, have gotten there due to their esteemed business acumen, extra hard work, higher intelligence, and of course, the good grace of God, which they of course earned.
So long as we continue to support a system whereby our lives are dictated to by a group of people whose only qualifications are that they amassed a whole bunch of money, be it in real estate, the numbers houses, graft and corruption, or outright theft, the results are the same. There is a reason education sucks. It is by design. If people were educated, they would see through the bullshit that is fed us by the rich and the politicians and media they have bought. We would have a Christian revolution by the next week. Yes, there is a reason education sucks. Mr. Wilson and many others, while speaking one way, actually believe the opposite. If they truly believed in education and fairness, they would not occupy the elevated social positions they now hold. The emperors would be seen as the poor naked empty vessels they really are.
Yes, we need a change. Unfortunately, Mr. Wilson's limited imagination leads him to a place where he will remain on top. Pity Bahamian society and our future.
And, of course, this is the best newspapers have to offer.

This is the result of a population of people, not an exception in the world, of placing one's selfish, immature and uneducated interests ahead of ALL of the rest of society. There is no solution to this once people are past childhood, where they would have learned respect, reading and writing, and social considerations that teach that we are all part of a whole. We have never evidenced this way of thinking. At this point, if we really wanted compliance, we have to lock these people up. Sad, truly, but we have never cultivated concern for the other. Yes, I know, Christianity teaches this. But, when was the last time anyone saw evidence of a Christian society, anywhere?
