Ask Prime Minister Davis why his daughter is working as a doctor in the US. Why do we lose so many health care workers and doctors to North America? Is it because the US and Canada pays its health care workers and doctors so, so much better? When we have to bring in health care workers and doctors from Africa is quite something, hey? Pay a living wage and provide decent working conditions and maybe we wouldn't have such a health care brain drain in this country. How does our health minister sleep at night knowing what is going on in this country in PMH and our many Family Island clinics? It is truly a disgrace. It is a matter of priorities. This government wastes too much tax money. Nepotism, inefficiency, fraud, theft and no-bid contracts have drained The Bahamas of the money needed to provide the people of The Bahamas with decent and respectable health care. Time and again, all of our politicians have allowed this travesty of basic humanity to continue.
My God! Dorian was in 2019. The whole group of you incompetent "so-called" leaders should be fired. I don't care where people come from who can actually do a job. But, it seems apparent that we are unable to find the necessary talent to do any job satisfactorily in this country. From a clown for national security to who ever is in charge of fire fighting. It is 5 years later that this issue still hasn't been addressed. There are few places in the world where should terrible job performance could ever be tolerated. I would fire the whole damn bunch of these slackers.
Pound wise and penny foolish. We would rather watch as our resources disappear into oblivion, rather than to take ownership of the problem and fix it. The complaints and realities about making people wait are universal. Our own people and people who see the outside world ALL agree. We have failed at getting things done in a timely manner. It is not that we take time to do due diligence or research. It is simply because we don't give a damn. We just don't care. This attitude can lead us nowhere. Our kids should leave these shores if we cannot do better for them.
Yes. And I believe it has permeated all aspects of our society. It is difficult to believe that our MPs and PM have ordinary Bahamians best interest at heart. From the looks of it, they are stealing as much as they possibly can. They are not even trying to hide it anymore.
I just paid my Starlink bill. I noticed that it went to Dublin Ireland. I wonder why? The rich no longer pay taxes. Their investments in buying governments have paid off, hey?
Agreed. But, the government profits from the extra revenue, and could if they choose, use some of this money to help those under the most pressure. Hell, they could use this extra money to invest in our essential infrastructure. But, neither the PLP or FNM can see this, can they?
Educated Christians understand that a progressive taxation system, such as income tax on the top 10% of earners is what is just and fair. or, a corporate tax. However, those at the top of the income pyramid are the very ones that own this government, which includes the politicians who write the laws. It is wishful thinking that a rich criminal lawyer turned politician has the People in mind when talking about taxes. Those at the top are the very ones who still believe in trickle-down economics, whereby the richest shouldn't pay taxes at all because they are the job creators and the innovators. That strategy worked out well for the Western world these last 40 years, hey? And, what happened to the 500 million of uncollected property taxes owed the Bahamian government? We don't hear too much about that anymore, do we? Why wasn't there the will in this, or any other administration to collect this property tax money? Enforcement is easy. Pay your taxes or lose your property. Oh, because these are the top donors to the PLP and FNM, and the politicians. Just like the BOB loans that couldn't be collected from the politicians and big borrowers. Politics has killed this small country. It almost seems as if there is nobody in the Bahamian government who can do math. Imagine running a household like we run this country. Borrow, borrow, borrow.
