Yes. Agreed. It is a conversation and dialog we need. The first step to this is a true emphasis on education. This is sorely lacking here. We push our kids to become obedient, and silent, "good" students who take these slimy politicians, pastors and police at their word and pretend that they know best.
When one does break free from the chains of oppression by these same people, they are victimized.
This is not a theory. It is real on a day to day basis.
Speak up for the betterment of your community and you are ostracized by those in power.
A power, I might add, that very very few here deserve.
The D- educational system is what allows this situation to persist.
And, exactly why the educated kids flee this country each and every day.

So, Mr. Young, you will not be leaving a penny for your children, hey?
Your logic and decency fall short for this generation..
Perhaps why Britain is falling quicker than Humpty Dumpty off a garden wall
A reasonable person would say that Britain abolished slavery a few million innocent souls too late.
But hey, that's what empires do.
No remorse. Typical.

If we had honest and educated people overseeing this slush fund for politicians, that might help.
Let's be real. There is not ONE state-owned enterprise in this country that is solvent.
Not one.
Demographics?
Immigration?
Hurricanes?
Or just blatant incompetence and theft?
You decide.

Is there a law in The Bahamas that states that no educated thinking people are allowed to hold positions of power?
To read these papers on a daily basis, and listen to the ignorant statements that come out of their mouths does not bode well for the future of this country.
Perhaps this is why so many are on the take, have bank accounts and property elsewhere, and are ready to jet off at any minute.
Truly frightening and sad.

Very good letter and suggestions Mr. Johnson.
First however, we must break the chains of continuing to elect ignorant, uneducated, dishonest and greedy politicians who have no vision for this country..
I think this is what you were alluding to by endorsing Pintard in light of the horrible excuse for leadership that is called the PLP under this failed Davis administration and the ignorant lackeys he surrounds himself with.
This present PLP administration has set this country back by decades at a time when we desperately need to be moving forward, onward and upward.

Be careful asking too many questions.
The voice note investigation, surely coming to a conclusion very soon, shortly after the election, may reveal some things we may not be happy with.

And the connection between the Lucayans and Bahamians is what?

The rich don't really mind. They are already installing water backups, generators, and buying Starlink because the government has failed at providing these essential services. So long as we continue to elect politicians who have no education, no vision, no morals, and always want far too much of the pie for themselves, we will continue down this road.
I have seen for myself many tourists vowing to never return to some islands because we lack these basic amenities.
In addition, were any of these politicians truly concerned about their communities and their country, and additionally had even a grade school understanding of business, they would recognize why the Family Islands are suffering. If I didn't know better, I would think this is the way they want things. But, I may be giving them too much credit for any thinking anything at all.

As well, if we focused on true crime, instead of tying up our police and justice system with arresting people for marijuana gummies and weed, perhaps we would make some progress into this century. I was recently in Canada, where marijuana, and gummies are legal. Never saw any police, and never felt unsafe. Could there be a connection?
