Mr. Allen from his ivory tower does not understand that many Bahamians don’t have sufficient resources to purchase all the basic food items they need. To argue that a reduction of prices by way of tax exemption does not help the poor is ludicrous.
Many other countries apply the tax exemptions like South Africa:
The government is right to reject this attack on our sovereignty by Biden. And make no mistake about it, this will be like VAT. In a few years they will say that 15% is too low and they will increase the minimum to 20% then 25% etc.
Hummm I don't remember them predicting 0 passengers for the past 14 months. The fact is cruises are not in fashion anymore and people want to take their vacations in a different way, like going to our Out Islands. Unfortunately when they will reach the beach like in Spanish Wells, they will find it flooded with cruise passengers.
“Accountants have warned new and/or increased taxes “have to come” if The Bahamas is to slash its near-$10bn debt”
Hummm we were told that we needed VAT to slash our debt, and what happened? Our debt exploded. In other words more taxes = more debt in this country. How about reducing expenses? How about balancing the budget? This is what we need to do. We cannot live beyond our means eternally.
