>IF Minnis said he would put in place term limits for both PM anf all mps and he would make foi act and recall process for mps and a few other importsnt things and said he is giving us his word as a man that these things would be done in six months or else he would either resign or else be known as not-a-man aka big sissy THEN i would vote for him.

He does not have the Constitutional authority to do these things himself. Only the people via a referendum can enable these things (minus the FOIA) to happen. But of course Minnis does not know this.

HA! Oh really now Branville? When did you suddenly make that determination?! You really cannot make this stuff up! I thought Ingraham's FNM helped to mess up the country according to Branville.

The point is that if they understood this entire matter, they would have understood that VAT would not have been used substantively for that purpose and they would have been able to communicate that to the public from day 1.

Publius says...

That is not true.

Well the PLP certainly is not the same, but what it has been able to do over the years is maintain a formula for accomplishing what its party constitution says, which is that it is formed to contest and win elections. And unlike the FNM, they understand the absolutely necessity of unity around a goal and objective.

Publius says...

> Who was that who breathed a sigh of relief? They would have had to be delusional.

Exactly

Publius says...

> A sigh of relief was breathed when it was thought that by Mrs Loretta Butler Turner, having taken over the leadership of the FNM in the House

She did not become leader of the FNM in the House. She became Leader of the Opposition. The Opposition is not a Party in our system, it is the members that do not constitute the governing side.

> Surprisingly, unlike the opposition, the PLP has succeeded in silencing dissent in its own ranks.

Why is that surprising? The writer is certainly not new to Bahamian politics.

> Bahamians rejoiced that the DNA and the FNM had at last formed a working partnership.

When did this ever happen? The answer is never.

> “The fact is that the public would know that since the government has come to office there has been an increase in the national debt to the tune of some $2bn,” said Mr Turnquest. “We also know that in excess of $1.3bn worth of VAT collections has been received by the Public Treasury. We were told initially that VAT would be used to pay down on the debt. How is it that $1.3bn in VAT could be collected, yet the debt has increased by some $2b?”

Not defending government overspending, but does Peter Turnquest understand debt servicing and redemption? Does he also understand how government finances actually operate? More certainly could be paid to the debt and spending should be cut so that this can even moreso be the case, it seems he thinks you simply dump 100% of the VAT onto your debt.

> If you were to ask most of the intelligent and educated people in this country whether the best person to lead such a government was Brent Symonette the response would be fairly consistent.

This is laughable and insulting. How does education and intelligence correlate with desiring Brent Symonette? So most who are unintelligent and uneducated wants another Bahamian then?
