A year in jail seems excessive... A very stiff fine would have sent a stern message and put money in the treasury.

As a local Jeweller of 36 years, we stopped the practice of purchasing gold from customers over 20 years ago for the very reason that people were coming in with stolen merchandise.

There are only so many people on this island that have gold to sell legitimately. At some point it can not support the number of cash for gold operations.

It is very easy to melt gold beyond recognition.

The Government must move to shut these places down.

Far too many of our customers are calling to inform us that they have either been victims of robbery or have had their jewellery snatched off their neck.

Because they are Bahamians... most probably have a family, with children and bills to pay.

Last time I checked, the goverment is elected to work for all Bahamians, not just PLP

As a 'Rev' Mr. Moss you should know that before you label 'young' people as the cause of the problem you need to step backward and label 'Fathers and Mothers' as the root cause. The complete breakdown of the family structure in the Bahamas is probably the number one cause of crime. As a Christian nation we as parents are called to train our children up in a specific way. Love and admonition... discipline and structure... by example.

Start here so that countless other young children already in the wings will not be led into a life of crime.

Well said Mr. Nunez, many of us respect the Tribune for both their vigilant and valiant effort over the years to speak the truth no matter how loud the 'womans tongue' pods shake in the wind.
