Christie's outright arrogance in appointing and continuing to support Miller as Chairman of BEC is only exceeded by his brain dead arrogance in ignoring the wishes of the Bahamian people as expressed in the outcome of the recent referendum he instigated at a cost to the Public Treasury well in excess of a million dollars. Christie has taken on a persona similar to that which Idi Amin had as the dictatorial President of Uganda....in fact Christie is even beginning to resemble Idi Amin in physical appearance. Amin's diseased brain eventually became mush, driving him to madness and in the process he inflicted the most cruel and inhumane treatment on the Ugandan people. Perhaps Christie's increasingly frequent episodes of irrationality can be attributed to a disease or other ailment. I remember well his recent silly attempt to have his cake and eat it to by trying to explain his position on a matter in a very self-confused episode in the House of Assembly wherein he maintained that Christie as PM was of one mind whereas Christie as Minister of Finance was of another mind and that, as a result, he was having great difficulty in making up his two minds! Yep, all certainly does not appear to be well upstairs for Christie.
The economic outlook and revenue raising assumptions made in Christie's recently announced budget have already fallen victim to assertions of unreasonableness by the international agencies like Moody's and S&P. On top of that the IMF is expected to significantly reduced its expectation for the growth rate of the U.S. economy for 2014. Given that most of our tourists come from the U.S., the knock on affect on our economy is obvious. The IMF (while making sure our dumb government keeps it lips on the foreign lending tit) has cautioned Christie that the foreign component of our national debt is going to wreak havoc on the Bahamas when the Federal Reserve starts to raise interest rates. is christie now brain dead? Halkitis has destroyed his future in politics by kowtowing to Christie's daft policies that put his own personal interests and priorities ahead of the country's well being. common sense tells all of us that serious belt tightening and downsizing must be done now, not later, no matter how painful and politically unacceptable it may be for the government.

Like BJ Nottage, Allyson Maynard-Gibson (Attorney General of The Bahamas), may be an impediment to Commissioner Greenslade's ability to enforce the law; but he should be able to get around AG Maynard-Gibson who has a track record for ..........well, too many things to mention here!
The fact that BJ Nottage and Commissioner Greenslade have not shut down the numbers' shops speaks volumes about their integrity......Greenslade has allowed Nottage to keep him on a short leash but Nottage will be the first one to throw Greenslade to the wolves in the public domain when it becomes politically expedient for him to leave Greenslade's integrity and reputation in tatters for time eternal. Greenslade would have absolutely nothing to fear by doing his job in the current political climate; but he has everything to lose reputation wise by not proceeding against known criminals no matter who they may be.

Given that most of our tourists come from the U.S., the knock on affect on our economy is obvious. Keep your eye on the only two balls that matter most Chippie: (1) VAT is horribly regressive and will cripple our economy; whatever additional revenue comes will quickly evaporate on necessary expanded welfare safety nets for the significantly increased poor; and (2) PM is proposing to try legalize the illicit activities of the numbers' bosses, thereby illegally thwarting the will of the Bahamian people as expressed in a duly held referendum instigated by him.
The PM has instructed his crew to throw up into the air as many controversial and distracting balloons as possible in an effort to have the public's attention taken away from the only two balls that really matter to him most right now. Tell your side to get back on track.
Miller and the BEC union leaders deserve each other, but unfortunately both seem hell bent on running BEC into the ground. BEC needs to be privatized asap, but not by allowing any of the politicians or their well-established business cronies to have a direct or indirect interest in the ownership or management of the privatized entity. and not by granting a monopoly of any kind over the power generation and power distribution needs of our country. Properly regulated healthy competition is what we will need to drive down the current outrageously high electricity bills we are all experiencing.......I'm not sure URCA with its current Chairman will be up to the task of providing the necessary regulation as free as possible of political interference and intervention which will be absolutely vital to enabling the efficiencies of private ownership to produce maximum benefit for the Bahamian people.
All public sector employees (no matter their age) would participate in the one new defined contribution plan I mentioned above which will need to be a non-contributory plan in the early years (i.e. only contributions by employees deducted by their employer from their pay with no matching or other contributions from the employer) until it is determined the plan will be financially sound for the long-term. Care will have to be taken to ensure the new plan is administered by qualified professionals in the private sector and not by government, otherwise it will go the way that our National Insurance Fund has gone. The new plan would need to be strictly prohibited from making investments that are in any way related or connected to government other than possibly a limited amount of Bahamas Government Stock.
