Yep, you could say Charlie Christie and that scoundrel George Smith (former MP for Exuma under the Pindling administration) are cut from the same cloth - basically two peas in a pod.
Freeport is dead for many other reasons - not because these hotel properties shutdown. The hotel properties shutting down and not re-opening is a symptom of Freeport's more serious problems, but certainly not the cause. Stop and think for just a moment. What on earth does Freeport have to offer tourists compared to so many other competing destinations in the Bahamas and Caribbean at large? Freeport was always intended to be developed as a commercial/industrial community. Nassau can barely compete for tourists in our region of the world with the unsightly monstrous hotel developments that it has, namely Atlantis and Baha Mar with the latter still struggling to show its viability.
And we will never see QC Smith put pen to paper to draft the 'fixes' that must be made to our Constitution and statutes to rid ourselves of the vexing illegal immigrant issues that we have been confronted with since 10 July 1973. Nor will the Minnis-led FNM government do this.
