Typical of the Bahamas. We're always so busy reinventing the wheel that we can't get out of our own way. I suggested this weeks ago. This was always the only solution. We're moving in the right direction but at a snail's pace!

We also need to seriously look at Panama's tourism model. Every visitor to Panama pays a mandatory minimal "tax" for health care. This ensures that if a visitor requires medical attention, medivac, etc', the country has state of the art facilities and ample funds.

It is obvious this scheme not only allows Panama to continually provide high-end services for citizens and visitors but is also a huge profit center for the country!

An initiative like this would rapidly provide funding to totally revamp our medical services without borrowing. This is another no brainer that the "financial task force" completely missed!

Let's see if the Bahamas government has enough common sense to copy Panama!

Coca Cola losing between 30-40 percent is sales is consistent with the countries' "real" unemployment rate of 55-70 percent.

The country had an 18 to 20 percent "real" unemployment rate before the pandemic and lost another 50-60 percent from tourism-related businesses with Covid-19.

Reality will truly raise its ugly head and set in after another 30 to 60 days as the economy continues to shrink, more people find themselves without food and shelter, crime increases exponentially, and the police continue harassing people just trying to survive for committing petty offenses.

@proudloudandfnm.....You fell hook, line, and sinker into their scapegoat reason for not sailing to Nassau!

Cruises originate in Florida which has more COVID than the Bahamas. As governor Desantis just canceled all COVID protocols including masks and now allowing all businesses to operate at 100% capacity, COVID will explode exponentially throughout Florida.

Yet the cruise companies have no problem sailing out of Florida! How is this remotely possible?

On Nassau's COVID rate is cruise line concern

Tourism isn't coming back until the U.S. especially Florida gets control of Covid period! With Florida governor Desantis recently deregulating masks and going to full opening of all businesses, Covid will exponentially blow up in Florida which translates to no tourist for the Bahamas.

In 60 days or so, we will be in serious crisis with no end in site!

The Bahamas and the Caribbean are the biggest cruise destinations in the world. Cruise companies need us more than we need them! If cruises never restarted, people would fly to Caribbean destinations, stay longer, and spend more in resorts.

Cruise companies are the bullies of the Caribbean because caricom countries stupidly allow themselves to negotiate individually with multi-billion cruise lines, and doesn't have enough sense to pull together as a regional body to regulate the industry for the betterment of the entire region!

Cruise lines have gotten away with piracy of tourism!

I am very happy some awareness is being focused on the damage cruise ships are causing in our country. However, serious emphasis must also be focused on forcing cruise lines to allow resort destinations a more equitable share of income from tourism.

In this regard, caricom has totally failed the Caribbean people!

Embarrassing, absolute joke of a country!

SP says...

Wow...So he jumps out of the frying pan....And dives into the volcano!

@FrustratedBusinessman......What you're saying is only partially true. Bahamians unquestionably do vote parties out, and not in, however, there was always only one substantial alternative.

Unfortunately, even now the other fringe parties are not smart enough to form a unified coalition in opposition to the PLP and FNM.

If they did, **AND** were able to assure the electorate that they too have not been compromised by the usual corrupt special interest groups, Bahamians would flock to them like flies to honey.

Stupid is as stupid does. Indeed!

In other news, has anyone else felt doubly charged by BPL this month? They promised power bills would decrease in August due to a fall in global oil prices, but everyone I know is complaining about bills doubling instead!
