@ ISpeakFacts....We were also totally dismayed and disappointed at the D-educated patrons in Sandyport and other "supposed upscale" bars and restaurants in the western district that has been partying non-stop without wearing any sort of mask or practicing any social distancing. Then you factor in the U.S. tourist that refuses to wear masks in their own country and certainly will not wear one in what he feels is a banana republic naturally gravitate to these places out west, and the "lighter-skinned" and culturally confused Bahamians doing everything possible to be accepted by the western crowd, and you have the perfect storm for widespread virus transmission.
Opening our borders to the USA was an easily avoidable colossal blunder, especially with Canada and the EU examples of keeping theirs closed, and even New York had mandatory quarantine rules for Floridians.
This self inflicted "second wave" will be much larger than the first simpley due to the fact the origin is much more highly contaminated resulting in higher volume of transfers per capita By infectious carriers, which also translates to the much higher community spread we see already.
We are most likely headed back into lockdown by mid August. A lot of people are going to suffer all over again even worse this round, and for what, a few tourism dollars?
Experimenting with opening to the U.S. was a bad call, and undoubtedly will be much more expensive than it could ever have been worth!
This could be a game-changer for tourism and especially the cruise industry. If people could be tested 20 minutes prior to boarding it might allow them to offer virus-free cruises.
**STFU Fred**.....Closing the beaches was unfortunate and disappointing for everybody, however, given the situation it was the right thing to do.
The courts had absolutely no problem charging unemployed, poor, struggling Bahamians ridiculous fines for breaking COVID guidelines just trying to survive, but discharged foreigners for breaking the rules?
How is this fair? Why do Bahamians always get shafted-over and foreigners always get away scot-free?
We're dammed if we do open, and dammed if we don't open to tourism! Being dammed if we don't is less damaging to the economy, as the cost and remediation of another total 3 months shut down will far outweigh the income generated in three weeks by a few 1000 tourists.
This is a high stake, life, and death, balancing act that I personally wouldn't want to be responsible for!
The Governors of Florida and Texas made the wrong beach opening call during spring break and now have hell to pay for their gross stupidity.
At least PM Minnis had the fortitude to get the Independence Holiday beach closure right. That could easily have been a maximum opportunity for multiple superspreaders to set us back several more very painful Months.
Good luck PM Minnis. COVID is a tricky war with no rule books, treaties, or do-over opportunities. You either get it right the first time, or COVID will unforgivingly make it known to all and sundry that you got it wrong!
You also should have learned by now to keep your eyeglasses on and clean with **BOTH** eyes' on Symonette and one eye on Sands! These two opportunitist are looking for openings to discredit you for their own political gains.
Like Canada, our borders should not have been opened to the U.S. until they got the pandemic under control. We will suffer a serious second wave and another even more painful shutdown. Will it worth the few U.S. tourist dollars?

That's another problem, Americans could be seen walking about the island without masks everywhere. In fact, I have yet to see one wearing a mask!
If they wouldn't wear masks in the U.S., why would we think they would wear masks in what they consider to be a lowly banana republic?
