This article is 110% accurate. My wife & I are scuba divers and absolutely love the Bahamas. We typically visit at least 2 times each year (we are Americans and live in the US). However, just last night we just decided to visit Cozumel, Mexico over Christmas break with our 2 daughters instead of the Bahamas -- even though the diving in the Bahamas is significantly better and we strongly prefer the Bahamas over Mexico. The MAIN reason is because of the difficult requirements to enter into the Bahamas vs. the easy requirements to enter into Mexico. Trust me, I would much rather spend my $10,000 on the scuba, food, drinks, house rental, car rental, tips, etc in the Bahamas, but the requirements to enter are simply too ridiculous. As a result, Mexico will get our business and our money this time. Sorry!!!!
Stuart is the real deal and a keeper!! I've dove with his outfit more times than I can count and have even met him a few times. I can feel his pain, worry, and frustration in this article. Can't imagine the amount of stress he is going through as a business owner and someone that genuinely cares about his staff.
Best part, he is 110% correct about scuba divers... it is definitely a drug. We are all addicted and can't wait to get back into the water!!!!
Let me preface by saying that I'm a white male, Christian, US republican voter with a household income in the top 5% of the US population. In other words, someone you would think would be a massive Trump supporter. I will call his Presidency an "experiment." It was an attempt by many voters to bring in an outsider and see how a non-politician can run the country. We gave it a try and it has been a complete failure and travesty. There is no way on Gods green Earth he should even be allowed to run again in November. In a perfect world, the republican party would put up a replacement nominee.
As for his leadership during the pandemic -- again, a complete failure and travesty. He has politicized the virus rather than letting the doctors and scientist take lead. He has downplayed the severity of the virus from day one and it continues to this day. Yes, each state can control and make it's own rules on how to manage the virus, but he still could go on National TV and strongly encourage every citizen to wear a mask in public. That is what a good leader would do.
In the end, Trump isn't a republican nor a democrat nor barely a US citizen (as proven by his lack of understanding of the US Constitution, his obvious abuse of our "checks & balances," and the fact he clearly is a narcissist). He unashamedly only cares about himself, his image, and his bank account.
The Bahamas government is stuck between a rock and a hard place. If they decide to keep the borders closed -- the overall economy continues to slide towards complete devastation, which can lead to mass civil unrest. Or, they can decide to open the borders -- which may increase the probability of spreading the Virus among the population of the Bahamas, which may be devastating as well. It's a lose-lose dilemma. Damned if you do and damned if you don't. So Ms. Wallace, what do you proposal is the answer? You have asked and presented some fantastic and insightful questions in your editorial. How should the government proceed?
As a white American male and a Republican... there is no way on Earth he will win again in November. He is history and thank the Lord his experiment is almost over. He has literally no respect for the Constitution or the Bible. I'm 100% sure he has never even read both documents. He has completely hijacked the republican political party and hopefully many more will turn on him and he will lose in November.
Yes... way, way too many racist cops in the US. The police need to do a better job of identifying and purging the racist cops from their ranks. This small percentage of bad cops has completely hijacked their profession. The officer with his knee on the man's neck for 8 minutes already had 18 complaints on his police employment record. 18!!!!!!! And he still was allowed to be a police officer. How was he not fired after say... 3 complaints. 18 is absolutely ridiculous and obscene. The police need to get real and do a much better job of eliminating the threat from within. It would certainly be a good first step in the right direction.
As an American, I can honestly say that the vast majority of US citizens that live outside of Florida have absolutely no issues or problems with Cuba. We want normalized relations with Cuba and it is blatantly obvious the 50+ year trade embargo hasn't worked. What we witnessed under the Obama administration is what the vast majority of US citizens want and were very excited about -- only to be hijacked by the new administration. Unfortunately, the influences from south Florida are too strong and persuasive and most Republicans will cowardly give-in to their demands to continue to punish Cuba. As a registered Republican myself, it is absolutely embarrassing, childish-like behavior, and very closed-minded. Fingers crossed we get a new administration in November and our country can start again to normalized relations with our neighbor to the south.
