Until the Government gets Freeport humming again they need to stay away from this money pit! And... when the Freeport economy starts humming again many investors will be interested in this property, so our government can continue to stay away.
From what I know, these cruise ships don't hire more than a handful of Bahamians at their "islands". The staff off the ship work the restaurants, bars, shops, beaches etc.
Redress? In the Bahamas? You're talking years of waiting and countless thousands in lawyers fees, just for some lame judge to make a stupid decision to force you to go to a higher court.
Since the PM wants to go to Singapore and check them out I suggest he also go with a sales brochure and get them to buy us. In fact they don't even need to buy us we could just give it to them. I am sure they could turn this country around in less than 10 years.
Stories like this really brings a tear to my eye. It's like watching a child in a playground fail at something over and over again and the child's parents are standing there watching and doing nothing to help the child. If this doesn't call for ALL of those people at the top of PMH to be fired then nothing will change. It's like super value having only cashiers who are blind and deaf so they can't see what is supposed to be scanned, whether or not they have scanned it, how much it adds up to, how much cash was given to them and how much change they handed out. Lunacy!!!
How many jobs we looking at loosing if this final wing (?) of the property closes? 400? It would be far cheaper to give each staff member $25,000 a year until they find a job. And, I'm guessing that $25k is more than they are earning now. I fear that if government buys this property they will be losing their $65mio investment plus tens of millions a year in maintenance and financial losses.
The Linwood Clarke family: Golden Isles. - "He began to rent portions of the land to these workers and allowed them to build homes on the land, charging modest annual rents of between $300 and $500 a year." My boy is a developer not a farmer. I wonder how much farm land is left or is it all houses now?
