Excellent points! I won't shed any tears for the death of a criminal. I feel for the criminal's family in very few instances because the vast majority of the time the family knows full well that the dead guy was doing shit and would sooner, rather than later, die on the street.
What we need to do is to publish many stories in Haiti about finding those five vessels overturned in the middle of the ocean or floating around without a captain, and all passengers dead or half eaten by sharks, bodies floating all over the ocean and up on shore. Stories of boat captains throwing the men overboard and raping the women, eating the kids etc. Then hopefully the Haitian people would lose faith in getting across safely, or will refuse to pay such a high price for such a perceived higher risk. In short, we need the Haitians to think that the journey is so horrific and risky that it is not worth it.
I agree that many societies are going down this path of blaming alcohol. In college in the U.S. many guys got in lots of trouble in the morning when girls woke up and 'felt embarrassed'. Many witnessed the girl flirting with the guy, kissing up with the guy, pulling the guy back to her bedroom but in the morning... OMG! Especially if the guy snuck out during the night and she woke up alone - heartbroken by the fact that he may not 'love' her. Traumatizing for both the girl and the boy.
Too right! Criminals have it too easy. The chance that a criminal gets locked up for any significant amount of time is very, very low. We have many safety nets in place to catch those few innocent people that are hauled before the court. If a person makes it all the way through the system to sentencing, then I think the sentence should be VERY harsh!

Lol! But if you stream it live for your friends and family to bear witness then you run into other issues. Sounds like a no win for the men.
