The country from which they leave has no grass to cut or trees to trim or farms to maintain. There is nothing in Haiti for these people to do. They must leave in order to keep their families alive.

And I beg you regular commenters to please refrain from speaking about his gayness or referring to him as 'sissy'. Let us focus on his message and lambast him and his party on those points only.

Sickened says...

Harsh! But I believe your statements to be accurate.

Agreed. We need to create new businesses and a brand new model altogether. We need to stop fixing this beat-up car and look to buy a Tesla.

Arawak Cay won't work - the junkanoo groups that use the area for practice will have a hissy fit if the space is used to make the Bahamas better.

Maybe not. Hasn't everyone already fled Grand Bahama? Those 25% unemployed Grand Bahamians and now unemployed Nassuvians - but yet New Providence's rate went down. Something smells with these figures.

What did Davis do to you to deserve this tirade? Must have been bad.

Have they ever said how many rooms are actually opened at this point? The last I heard was 200 rooms but that was a while ago. I recently heard that all of the rooms (both sides) of the main hotel were open, but I don't know for sure. This 50% figure is not great, but it may be worse if there is only a few hundred rooms available.

Sickened says...

A room tax can be considered BUT I would not suggest taxing rooms that go for less than $150 a night. The reason is, there are no hotels in this price range (in Nassau) that I am aware of. The tourists that stay in these AirBnB rooms tend to eat every meal out (at non-hotel restaurants) and explore much more of the island than tourists that stay in hotels. They take jitneys, rent cars and motorbikes, they go downtown and explore the forts and protected areas.
