Anybody who hasn't been asleep last 4 weeks, realizes this is just the beginning.. a lot more bad news to come.. make no mistake, our economic existence as we knew it is in very grave danger of never returning.
Unfortunately, small states are very vulnerable to external factors... EU blacklist, lists about who is or is not cooperating in war on drugs, now this blockage of equipment considered vital for US national security.. we will always be at the mercy of larger, more developed and wealthy states.. nothing can be done about it because its unrealistic to believe we can be self-sufficient in all thibgs.. so again, we pray for mercy.
Gov't really has to stop setting these economically disastrous practices.. isnt exposure to potentially hazardous medical threats part of their job? If that sounds like something you cant stomach, maybe wait tables or drive a taxi or some other 'safer' job? No wonder the debt continues to balloon. COVID going to bring everyone back to reality soon and its going to be tough to accept by many.
I'm not sure how we can diversify.. no fertile areas so farming very expensive, unskilled workforce, a workforce accustomed to pay and benefits incompatible with their job function, etc. Its a shocking reality with no apparent solution but prayer..
It seems all but certain that we will be at the door of the IMF within the next 12 months. BPL cant disappear, so we need to find a way to keep that going.. same thing for WSC. On the other hand, this may be the time to sell ir close bahamasair.. its a luxury a poor financially challenged country will no longer be able to support. May have to let ZNS collapse and slash those gluttonous pensions being paid to former politicians and civil servants and quasi-government corporations. The day of reckoning has arrived known as COVID-19.
Like most of the posters, i agree that many of the businesses closing now will never see the light of day again. Likewise, we will be lucky if Atlantis and Bahamar reengage 50% of their staff for the remainder of this year. Hope we are all wrong. Big, big concern has to be future value of the B$. If that falls, highly likely, then we all become paupers overnight and quality of life as we know it never to be the same again. But, i hope we are all wrong.
Have to agree that when these unions were gorging themselves with exhorbitant contract demands and blackmailing hotels with threats of work stoppage, it should have occurred to them to tell their people that one day the bottom will drop out so be prepared. Now they get the work stoppage they threatened but not the way they expected.
We knew this day would come and there will be more so things just have to play out now. The world is shutting down for 30 days, borders being closed, etc. Lets hope thats a fix and life can begin to return to normal sooner rather than later. COVID-19 isn't a concern to me, its more about the short and longterm economic hit.
Unfortunately this is just the beginning. More catastrophes to come. However as a christian nation we should take comfort that we are witnessing the fulfilment of prophecy and getter nearer to the 2nd coming.
A friend told me preclearance has nothing to do with reopening for international flights. No CBP just means you clear in the USA. You need TSA approval for security reasons i was told so they know people and bags get checked ...
