the tail can never be allowed to wag the dog. it follows that management's job is to manage as directed by the owner(s). Employees are just that, not consultants. someone needs to send these organized labour groups, who would be called crime families in another context, a message. Reagan did it to the air traffic controllers and the new man in Zimbabwe to the nurses. if you let them all go, the sun will still rise and everbody would know their place in the structure of the company again. order would be reestablished so to speak .

something has got to be seriously wrong with the distribution network. there is no way a single failure should lead to an island-wide blackout. so the root of the problem has to be a lot bigger than 'equipment failure'.

people traveling at other folks expense will always be an issue. even in America they have questions about these things all the time. so lets not waste too much time addressing something that will not be fixed.. work on finding some jobs and lowering cost of my power bill. that would be time better spent.

price control has no place in a capitalist society. competition and the market decide the price of everything just like the value of your house and your salary. if there is no demand for your skills or your skills are readily available, you get paid less. thats the way it is. price control, like most other socialists inspired policies, should be abolished. what we will need is effective oversight to ensure no price fixing collusion in any area of the marketplace..

i'm sure all the concerns expressed have been raised elsewhere. just find the solutions and apply as necessary. frankly i dont see massive solar panel farms or windmills or anything else so while these may be preferred options for some, i think its all pretty much unrealistic based on where we are as far as our development is concerned..

Socrates says...

his concern is how they will keep those inflated contracts negotiated over the years that could never exist in a competitive environment. for sure adjustments will be needed or jobs cut and they're not ready or willing to face that..

Socrates says...

again how does this happen? are there engineers who design the specifications required? who vets the contractor? how was this shoddy work not picked up by whoever inspects for gov't and who was responsible for the project? same old story..

there is never an excuse for inadequate communication. they say they will be open and keep people informed, so just do it. hurricanes, etc., have no impact. government is full of people with different responsibilities, so no storm should have the entire gov't occupied to the extent that nothing else can happen in the country.

i hear Wells and i guess to a certain extent all countries have some minimal tariffs on some imports. however, i do not think the argument put forth to keep barriers to protect local industry holds water. if your costs are too high, do something about it. other countries seem to have been able too. and the interest of a few companies or individuals must not be allowed to persist to the detriment of the majority. lower costs benefit the economy at large and that cant be a bad thing. we will have to adapt to tte new reality and stop fighting to stay in the 19th century.
