"the government is considering amending current legislation to include stricter guidelines for surrey drivers after a horse collapsed and died on Tuesday." Now that doesn't sound too promising does it? This would be the main reason the whole thing should no longer exist.
Get rid of the whole thing. There is no way that these horses will ever be properly cared for. Who wants anything to remind them of a colonial past anyway, especially if it involves cruelty to animals?
I am so glad to see attention being drawn to this very important issue. I still don't believe that the poor horse who died was really being treated properly and I have little faith that new regulations will close the "gaps". I encourage everyone to sign the petition and for the government of the Bahamas to ban this outdated activity completely.
This horse should have not been working at all. There is no excuse! These horses are not properly cared for and lead miserable lives. The owners are senseless and cannot be trusted to look after their animals. The bottom line is profit.
Don't see what people eating horses in Florida has to do with the working conditions of horses in the Bahamas? I also agree that there are many children who are not cared for and that needs to be changed as well, however, I don't see why the horrible treatment of animals can't be addressed at the same time. Tourism is extremely important to the Bahamas and if some tourists are disturbed by this maybe they will think think about visiting somewhere else or at the very least refuse to ride in a Surrey. No reason with the amount of money that the Bahamas takes in from tourism that they can't fix this problem.

Sounds. Like a wonderful project. Getting the survey's off the streets should also be a part of the redevelopment as well I think.

The activity should be banned completely. It is totally outdated. I hope many tourists refuse to visit until this activity no longer exists.

Actually, I don't think there should be Surrey horses at all. It is an activity that is way outdated in my opinion.
On After the death of a surrey horse this week, do you think there should be stricter guidelines for surrey drivers?
