Stay brave on this. Closing the Arthur's Town is a surprising and disappointing mistake for any Bahamian official to make. In fact, the airport should be reopened as "Sydney Poitier Airport" to commemorate Cat Island's most internationally famous personage - in addition to being a prominent civil tights activist. How could any Bahamian official recommend closure of an airport in the birthplace of it's most famous native son --and even more shockingly without even commenting on that fact
Time to elect leaders who actually care I say. So rename the airport for Sidney Poitier and reopen it with style.

In addition, the road between these places is in terrible condition. I believe this decision is driven by Sky Bahamas' financial interest in servicing only one airport on the Cat. Has anyone checked into this? What do north end business interests think? What do north end residents think? What do those flying private planes in here think? Just sayin'....

I do not know what the situation is on other Family Islands, but I do know that the Arthur's Town Airport serviced the entire Northern half of Cat Island. The New Bight Airport is more than an hour from Arthur's Town by car, and as you know there is no public transportation here.
