It is far more likely that these unsustainable "vendor commissions" were part of the corruption problem that existed in BTC when it was owned by "the government", which of course means "owned by corrupt politicians". This claim that ending an unprofitable business practice suggests a cash crisis is just one more among the ten million reasons for getting all industry, including BEC into the hands of private operators as quickly as possible.
I mean for starters to whom does the money go (except the big part that goes to those lawyers you mention) and who owes it?
One of the most laughable aspects of racist thinking is the assumption that anyone knows what "race" they are. Once you go back four or five generations the grandparents of people who claim one "race identity" are likely to find some of the same progenitors as people who claim a different one.
Science has proved without any doubt that every human on earth had the same ancestors who walked out of Africa about 40,000 years ago.
When will these fools stop building their lives around "race". It's like the slave masters passed on the very most ignorant and evil aspect of their belief system to a large percentage of today's progressives.
Cannot one assume that when someone is taken by ambulance to the hospital or the morgue that the government is automatically notified? There is no story here. It would be shocking with all the thousands of man hours expended on this project if there were not some deaths. I am sure that is an actuarial certainty.
Comrade Fred: Do you mean like sending a squad of goons to interrupt the Atlantis, Dolphin entertainment in front of hundreds of foreign tourists, demanding to see the work papers of the young woman who was conducting the show in her wetsuit?
Does Comrade Fred really believe anyone will believe this nonsense? This entire mess, which has the potential to significantly damage our already fragile economy, is Fred-made. It is all about his love of his Cuban dictator pals, and has absolutely nothing to do with the interests of the Bahamas or any obscure United Nations regulations.
Quite obviously it is well within the legal jurisdiction of the Bahamas, as a sovereign country, to permit visitors or detainees to travel to any destination the country wishes.
Comrade Fred wanted to kick sand in the eye of the U.S. and the Free Cuba political constituency for the "feel good" of it. He could care less about the many Bahamians whose employment he continues to jeopardize.
I have it on good authority (the factual support being expeditiously removed from the internet) that Lyford Cay residents were spotted on the grassy knoll on that fateful day in Dallas; that they planned and executed the attacks on 9/11; and, that they roam the streets of N.P. at night committing robberies and shootings.
Mr. Mitchell has never missed an opportunity to dance to the Castro Brothers tune or to put his thumb into the eye of our largest revenue generating partner, the United States.
The die hard PLP's who write in these columns can scream at the top of their lungs, but without regard to the issue of what happened at the detention center, or whether the infamous video was faked, pray tell us all, why is it in the interest of the Bahamas for our Foreign Minister to use his public office to further his personal, anti U.S., vendetta?
Does it serve the interest of the Bahamas for our appointed Ambassador to be rejected by our most important trading partner?
The interest of the Bahamas is served by supporting good relations with the U.S. Do we need to go out of our way to find ways to insult our most important trading partner? Why?
Frankly, the Castro brothers Cuba is almost irrelevant to the interest of Bahamians economically (talking here about jobs). So why does Comrade Fred never miss an opportunity to support this totalitarian regime and to offend our nation's best customers? Do you really think they don't notice or care?
