This is disgusting. This comes on the heels of the VAT increase which was supposed to help pay down debt.
Funds for this very good idea could have been procured from companies in these fields by:
A) Reducing their NIB payments by 50%; B) Asking for loans from companies in these fields and raising the work permit fees by ten-fold in those areas, but offering 90% off to companies who "donate";
And...
C) Shaming the churches into donating to the education of the children that their STUPID policies have created; D) Remove the duty free status of baby food and diapers; E) increaase the duty on soft drinks imported and the syrups and other ingredients used by local soda makers by 10 percentage points. Eg. 20% up to 30%. F) Triple the duty on all candies and candy bars and other "sweets" except for pure chocolate (without nuts or caramel or anything) because chocolate is actually a health food.
Let's pay for our own damned training of our own people!!!! I would not be at all surprised if the quick removal of us from the blacklist a few months ago was contingent on us "accepting" this loan. The IDB is a mafia type agency that knows full well how to cripple a country with debt.
I was very very pleased with KP and the new 12% VAT to bring true independence to our country, but this move has reduced my faith.
I think the reason she gave is the very same reason those Irish sailors have not yet been driven off Pelican Cay in the Exumas. Their huge yacht crashed on the rocks there in Feb of 2017 and they just staying there. Two of the women have given birth since then - and the parents say the children will apply for citizenship when they turn 18.
I spoke to a PLP MP before election, and two FNM MPs since election - but they say there is nothing they can do because any move against the sailors would be viewed as racism because everyone on the Cay is Irish except for the one Bahamian lighthouse keeper.
“They know their situation isn’t good,” he said. “And they know their condition is unsanitary. They don’t want to stay in that condition.”
really??????????
Not only do they want to stay in that condition - but they want thousands of innocent children (their own damn children) to live there with them. They keep making more like Doritos potato chips.
WHY is the cost high to deport? Get one huge cargo ship, load them on, go to Haiti flanked by 5 of our defense force ships loaded with weapons and have bullets in the big deck guns (we have none now) and offload them. Let the Haitian army come down to the beach and ask for us to shoot them.
Or inform the Haitian govt that we bringing them back. Tell them to come and rescue them from the sea border. Put life vests on them and toss them overboard 7 miles north of Haiti (the sea border). Their govt can pick them up.
They are here to murder us and take our country. The longer we don't believe that, the happier they are. They are biding for time to become the majority. Pindling's speech about majority rule must have been broadcast on every radio in Haiti back in the day - cause those people know more about majority rule than Brave Davis.
Will the Bahamian people - in this new agreement - get even one cent per gallon of crude oil processed?
Will this money be distributed evenly amoung individual NIB account numbers quarterly and be available for withdrawal at any NIB office twice per year?
No. Of course not. Because we are Bahamians and we forever be droppin' da soap.
Neymour was a visionary and a patriot, serving as the second Chairman of the Coalition for Democratic Reform under B.J. Nottage - where i first met him.
Had the C.D.R.won that election, the Bahamas would be so much further ahead today. Unfortunately, most Bahamians were content eating corned beef in those days.
I pray that God will continue to use Neymour and Nottage in good ways, that we cannot understand while we are alive, in the furtherance of His kingdom.
Symonette said "He pitched the idea of introducing ceilings on permits for domestic jobs, and other industries; however at the time, he admitted he did not expect the suggestion to be favourably received."
By who? The employers of course. If you can bring in Hondurans or Peruvians or Haitians or Philipinos on the cheap....why not.
Bahamian dont want to do $10/hour job for minimum wage? Dey could suck teet. US$5.25 is big money in other countries.
"He said much of that cost revolves around various fixed commitments such as rent..."
He can say that again!!!
Ministries and Departments "renting" buildings owned by their political friends is way too rampant. This also means less affordable office/business space for Bahamians.
Rents are stupidly high in the Bahamas on EVERY island. Govt needs to turn more Crown land into "government subs" - real quick. With the Shanty Town residents grabbing up everything, Bahamians dem ga soon have to find one soft conch shell to lay dey head on.

NO. You did not read carefully. I said arrange this with the Haitian Government...so that they can have boats there at the same time to assist.
It would be disgusting and inhumane to just toss people into the open ocean - i did not say that.
