The fees are one thing - but the interest rates are the worst problem. A simple comparison of rates here vs usa and canada will make your hair fall out. Also the fact that banks to NOT have to provide you with a statement or any info whatsoever on consumer loans (only mortgages) is just silly - especially in this age of computers and online accounts. With an online account you still cannot see your current balance, because charges are held in a separate account until they are "capitalized". It is trickery and smoke screening and it is currently legal.
Before you get a loan with a bank, pretend you are getting married - where there again they don't tell you it will cost 3 to 4 thousands dollars for a divorce - they just tell you that you will live happily ever after. Nonsense.
"This comes as developers have recently erected additional material to obstruct the view of ongoing work on the compound."
In other words they are effectively saying "Bahamians keep your noses out of the Chinese Government's business!!!"
And also "Don't even try crying to the USA for help, cause you know we already scare them so bad they moving their embassy."
Donald Trump talking about putting tarriffs of 25% on steel and 10% on aluminium from China - but those have not actually gone into effect yet. He's afraid of the big red wolf also. Our leaders here in the Bahamas know that full well, so das why dey mout got Krazy Glue.
So - plain and simple - her Member of Parliament cannot help her - she must PAY for an attorney. Vote and then Pay - it's the Bahamian way.
Amazing too how they refuse to say which labs they send DNA to in the USA. What's the secret? Everyone knows it's
Jethro's Hillbilly DNA Sure-Shack,
in the bayous of Louisiana just east of Shreveport. Unfortunately, the shack is an old wooden structure, not secured against the random wandering alligator. A real shame. Yep. A real shame, I reckon.
We don't care about an "agenda" - we want to know what is actually happening on a month by month basis. How much money came in - from where - for what - and how much went out - from where - for what - and how much was borrowed - from where - for what - and how much is the starting balance and ending balance each month of the infamous "consolidated fund".
Of course, we know better than to ask - peasants aren't allowed to get this info from their masters.
The cost of items in this country is often very high - yes. BUT the money we pay for them at least goes into our hands. If we allow foreigners to come in and own everything then where will the money go? What jobs will we have except (if we lucky) cash register operators, and offloading trucks of inventory? Companies like WalMart and Home Depot etc will come in and undercut the market and put all Bahamians out of business. Look on YouTube and you will see how when WalMart goes into small towns across America they put all the smaller stores out of business. They are a big flat roller like you see on roadwork projects that just flattens and smashes people out of business to the benefit of their Chinese (off the record) masters. Turn the items upside down and you see "Made in China" printed on them.
Yes, we have a lot of corruption here - but I believe by and large Bahamians can succeed if they get out there a try get off the wall smokin weed. There are lots of examples.
Of course, I could be wrong about the WTO. I hope I am, because I believe they already have our Govt in their pocket - so I hope that they truly intend to make things better for us. I will gladly admit two years from now that i was wrong and i was a complete idiot - but a happy idiot with money in my pocket - and say thank you WTO.
Socrates, Proudloud, and Economist - yall gats to be smokin the Bin Laden weed. You can't compete with people that eat one bowl of rice per day and live 24 in a shack swapping out for 8 at a time to get 8 hour sleep breaks while working 16 hour days - UNLESS you want to live the same lifestyle and consume less than one bowl. Then you will be competive.
It all comes down to labour costs.
There are global forces out there under the leadership of George Soros that wish to destroy "western" culture.
As Pindling said if we don't fight for what is ours, others will gladly come and take it away. The WTO is simply a huge, complex, and glorified way of conducting "legal" theft.
If you want to give away the Bahamas, go ahead. I don't. I enjoy our high stature among Caribbean nations and the benefit of our proximity to the USA. We have it. Others don't. Don't give it away my friend.
Mr. Ferguson when is the last time all unions have had a united strike? Threats to "shut the country down" but no action. Threats to "shut down Bay Street" but no action. Head counts at the Pointe but no figures released - and no national strike from you guys. Rev. Jeremiah Duncombe being chased out of Rawson Square even though he had a protest permit, and nobody stood up for him.
A bunch of hot air. Everyone know the labour unions were neutered by the laws Papa put in place. You have to file ahead of time and you have to beg to the tripartite commission and you can be charged before the courts.
The Bay Street Boys are back in control since Papa's 2nd term. Things are just as bad now as they were before Burma Road. We all just pretend it's not that bad and live on "hope" and "thank God for life", meanwhile the noose is tightening around our necks.
No Union participation in WTO is needed because after WTO if your name ain't Wong, Chang, Lee, or Ho you can forget having any job above minimum wage and even those will be sparse.
Either have a full national strike by end of month or close up your offices, shut ya mouth, and hide under your bed.
The government is no longer afraid of your empty threats and crying wolf. Lots of bark but no bite.
Mr. Lloyd, May 2017 has been gone long time. I guess you think people are just going to sit around for 5 years and then put the PLP back in. No. The people now say 5 years is too long for foolishness.
Why don't you change the forced statistical curve which only thru mathematical manipulation brings about a D average for our students? Everyone in the field understands grading on a scale. You can fix that so it is a C with the simple stroke of a pen.
How can you sleep at night while forcing these grades upon our young people. If you don't understand it, ask one of your math teachers to explain "grading on a curve" to you sir.
This is disgusting and needs to stop. Disgusting ia the best word i can use in public.

What do you need witnesses for when you can just jail people for 4 years without charge and then they still need to pay $15,000 bail?
Just lock up whoever you feel for as long as you feel. There is no public ombudsman or anyone else the people can go to do defend their rights.
If i'm wrong please reply and tell me who it is.
