Everyone knows that Abaco is literally busting at the seems with Haitians. They have filled every nook and cranny there is there and have taken every job. Perhaps Freeport's close proximity to Abaco is what he is eyeing here. I say no no no. If Haitians want to expand their control beyond Abaco, let them have to find boats to sail to Andros just like they did to Abaco. Not simply be able to hop on the quick little ferry for $50 and come over to Freeport. I support anything that Government does to stifle growth in Freeport. They have been doing an excellent job so far of keeping the economy in the garbage can in Freeport, and they should keep it up - because all that will happen is the Haitians will expand from Abaco to there, and once again - as always - Bahamians will not benefit one dollar from any improvement. Bahamians, always left with the short end of the stick.
To the marijuana article: It did not really place enough emphasis on the issue of police records destroying the futures of our young people. This is not a trivial issue. It also did not address the benefits to cancer patients. I mean, I'm not suggesting that the writer should have just come out and labeled as idiots all the holier-than-though church people who support the status quo, but something close to that would have been appropriate. To the web shop owner issue: This is akin to when blacks in Africa sold fellow blacks to the white merchant ship operators. Every time a Bahamians walks into a web shop and puts down money, they are "selling" their fellow Bahamian (behind the window) to the merchant ships. You know the bosses are paying the peanuts - yet you are contributing to the ongoing spectacle. Disgraceful. This is also similar to a well known fast food restaurant here in the Bahamas, which I know of, which does not allow their staff on the counter or in the kitchen to sit down for even one single minute during the entire 8 hour shift. I learned of this from an employee who left there ONLY for that reason. Since then I have not spent a dime with that place. I do not support slavery, esp. in a country still recovering from its past injustices. There are other restaurants I can go to. I cannot mention the name here - but do you own investigation, and decide whether you want to give the any more money to continue their wickedness yourself.
Dennis - you are obviously too smart to be in this country. Sit tight. The govt has probably seen your post and will track you through your IP address and ship you out soon. Ask to go to Iceland or Norway or Canada. Somewhere that smart people can live unscathed.
"..The $15m, which has been raised from the issuance of preference shares via a private placement to select institutions and high net worth investors"
This is ALWAYS the case. Only SELECT institutions, or HIGH net worth people. Ordinary Bahamians? Want to buy $100 worth of Aliv shares? Too bad for you. You don't count. You have no opportunity to advance in your pathetic life. But keep buying minutes from us though, we will take your meager $10 and add it to our collection.
They could probably get people like me to switch to Aliv if they would make a corporate promise on their website that they will NEVER add 1. for English 2. for Creole 3. for Spanish like how BTC has. I have called them, and they will not commit to this, so I see no reason to switch from BTC. I will just keep pressing my 1 for English.
As always, if you are an ordinary Bahamian that speaks English in this country, dog ate your lunch.
"...and get them in a programme, it would help but the government has to invest in mental health intervention for sex offenders and they haven’t done that and that’s something we’ve been asking for for 30 years."
Madam, ive been following you in the papers for many years. I dont know how you function in a society like this which truly does not want change and real solutions. You would think they would be willing to listen to you, the expert, after they've failed for 29 years especially to prevent rapes and molestations which severely harm the futures of both children and adults.
But, no. The same old drumbeat continues. Make a register, lock em up. That's all society knows. The same old stuck record for thousands of years. Our world has new technology and old sociology... very old sociology.
So owning a mansion in the Bahamas, gives you no benefits whatsoever? You cant even have a party once a year? People are used to being in fear of their lives on a daily basis at any point in Nassau - from gunshots. At least here you will know the date and time. Stay off the street that night. Wow. Some of you people seem like you just want to crawl up inside a church and die. Live while you are alive. Jesus lived as a man while he was among us (but those parts of the Bible were excluded from the chosen 66 books). Oh well. It doesn't really matter Death awaits us all.
Listen. The BGCSE is SCALED to be a D average. They are not publicising that they have an extra grade in there (e). a b c d e f (g/u) so d is in the middle. So average on normal distribution graph gets D. If they used same as in USA then our students would average at C. This is done specifically to disqualify many Bahamians from attending college in usa and canada so that the hotels have enough maids and waitresses and janitors. Now Minnis is trying to allow these students to enter into a better place of learning where they receive and education. But yall have been taught for so long that the only thing a Bahamian should receive free is a political party t-shirt - that this act of statesmanship just doesnt compute in your brains. Very sad.
Sounds like he really cares about people and takes the overall welfare of students to heart. A good man. Government will surely fire him. He should start working on updating his resume.
