Mr. Myers is right, their consultations are worthless, full of disjointed bits and pieces accumulated over the last 4 + administrations by functionaries who are neither in business or astute enough to go beyond the initial WTO Bureaucratic statement of purpose.
And they seem bound to keep secrets since Mr. Laing and his appointees were originally running this circus.
Government keeps claiming consultation with the private sector, but I wish those who have been consulted with would own up.
I can't seem to find any.
Laing is irrelevant but is unfortunately again in a position to bugger things up.
I will add that every other caribbean nation has leaned heavily on its private sector for as large a negotiation team as they can muster. Not Mr. Laing and co. And Mr. Winder, the most recent participant is now gone.
They're all sworn to secrecy!

Government has no $$ to throw at Alternate energy, or updating bec/bpl .
The only sector with the $$ is the Private sector, but Government cannot let go of certain things, therefore drags their feet and utilizes every excuse thrown at it by interests vested in the status quo.The "Yes you can/no you can't, yes you can again" flip flopping doesn't instill confidence that investing in solar is safe or investment worthy.
As to space, yes, perhaps there is a challenge in finding space for large utility scale installations (personally I doubt this) but private roof tops and yard space abound.
If a liberal grid tied policy was enacted, specifically one that prevents bec/bpl/Emera from resisting via technical feet dragging, the Bahamas could easily overshoot the goals and timelines set (politically) in short order. Being a member nation of the Carbon war room and the 100 Island Challenge (perfect candidate: Ragged Island) seems to be an empty promise.
So we continue to bleed a billion a year of U.S. currency on fuel oil imports.

Government falling all over itself borrowing more Chinese money to do the Port Authorities Job!
Seriously, elected idiots need to back away and really look at the G.B. situation,
Self inflicted for sure but Governments partner in crime has always been the Port Authority and its principals.

I was told someone stole all the refrigerant Copper tubing from the units, and also cleaned out the deep freezer of food inventory.
But we'll never really know will we.
Maybe copper replacement is routine around there......

A fiscally obscured nuisance which has been feeding on the middle class for decades.
Audit the books of them all!

The_Oracle says...

The more I think about this desperate action the more it appears the Government is truly clueless and absent of the rationale that would give it pause to consider the Port Authority itself is in complete breach of its responsibilities and seems as clueless as the Government itself!
That we have arrived at such a questionable "solution" to such an obvious and long standing problem caused by long standing Port Authority failure virtually guarantees abject failure, on par with Freeport's general demise.
Nothing has done more to destroy the premise and promise of the H.C.A. than the collusion between Governments and Port Authority principals over the last 50 years, which via this SPV obviously continues.

So he has gone from clogging up the airwaves to somewhere he can really screw up and do damage!
The problem is that his team in 2001 although small, was competent.
Do we even have a team anymore?
When told by Ministry of finance people that "we can't tell you too much because then other countries will know our positions" in one of their brief and vacuous meetings I knew we were screwed.

Somehow "think Tank" and PLP don't go together.
What is needed is implementation, the total failure point of all administrations.
too damn much thinking, consulting, pontificating, all the while burning $$.
