Yes, honest business effort and success is punished, but not to the degree that illicit activities are rewarded.
Legalizing "numbers" was a windfall for those involved akin to a pirate getting pardoned and getting to keep the plunder!
Successive government refused to deal with you per the rule of law so now they can deal with the results. The unfortunate part is the bleeding of the poor, which can never be outweighed with the so called "civic works" or charitable activities. Only the Pope can sell pardons of conscience.

But wait, our world was never supposed to change! I mean, this won't affect us right?
What do you mean I owe Uncle Sam taxes Just cause I was borned dere? I ain't never live there!
Carey is correct, Willful denial coupled with Government secrecy through much of the negotiation process has set many up for costly double taxation and business pressures beyond the typical self inflicted slackness.
Sad fact is even most Lawyers have no clue, aside shifting their own fortunes from jurisdiction to jurisdiction.
With no reciprocity agreement with the U.S. many Bahamians will suffer a period of double taxation and tax penalties, which means more foreign reserves pressure as the U.S. ain't accepting B$!
Hey, we voted for this crap (irrespective of party), we gave our silent consent, so we own it!

Government cannot trust their own records or documents, nor do their various computer or paper systems cross over or mesh. Perfect scenario of graft, fraud, theft, corruption, slight of hand, missing documents, altered documents,
Just the way they want it.

I think Minnis better check himself given the garbage Customs and the Ministry of finance are implementing.

I swear if Bahamas Customs spent half the time they spend "inventing new controls" actually following existing rules they'd be way ahead of the game.
They are so clueless. They have "interpreted" themselves into oblivion!
So, here we are considering a ban on disposable plastics but lets destroy forests of trees for multiple copies (per entry) of valid business licenses!
All the above Points are valid but as it stands government is the highest and ever increasing cost of doing business in the Bahamas!
I don't doubt the Ministry of finance has no clue about the inflows or outflows of foreign currency but this garbage is ludicrous.
I suppose this is the result of political appointees and sweethearts, and illiteracy within the upper ranks.

SWER. There's your problem. Look it up.
No annual testing of ground wells. (required when SWER is used in rural areas of the US)

Still micromanaging, still buried under daily panic mode.

Clogged up West Bay pretty tight, detoured westbound past Premier Imports on St Albans due to the "parade", only to run into the damn Parade at the roundabout at Farrington rd/Thompson Blvd with no access except turn around!
Police at either end were clueless and dumb struck.
Almost missed our flight! Took two hours to finally get back to Wulf rd, Marathon to east west Highway to the airport.
Pure unmitigated stupidity. Road side "displays" were horrific, a real testament to the strength of spandex.
All in all I'm thankful it was a complete waste of private money not treasury funds.
Are we so lost as a people we will debauch ourselves at any cost?

The new "Beneficial Ownership Registry" will run headlong into the H.C.A and Port licensees as well,
given that existing national requirements for company audits etc do not apply.
The required homework is decades overdue on WTO accession, Trade agreements etc.
Finding 20 Bahamians who even have a clue will be tough!

The position he takes is that of a typical micro manager.
Was it not he who said he would take no portfolio so he could "oversee" all ministries?
