Sure, we are all victimized, by successive government that have dumbed us down to to point we cannot even read and more importantly comprehend simple english! We will deserve the consequences of our willingness to be led astray by the various multitude of fools we place on pedestals including the so called clergy! The Port Authority is being gutted by government, and its principals don't seem to know it, or care. I understand they just did a 50% discount on overdue Maintenance fees, So looks like the petty cash pillaging has begun. Most of the assets are privately held anyway. A sad end to what was an incredible vision, even though hijacked very early on.
Could be said that Atlantis " most favored nation" strategy and concessions contravened the pre-existing Hawksbill Creek agreement, but why let Statute law get in the way of Government desperation....
Exactly why they love foreign consultants, Pay for a report that you can safely ignore, and shelve along with all the others of the last 50 years. why should they care, they got paid for it and go home! Meanwhile Bahamians give input, (or input is claimed by government but from phantom Bahamians apparently as none have been named or found) they get mad when ignored, and rightly so, they have a stake in it!
Easy enough for the Government to "tilt" the figures, build a bunch of clinics, a fire station, a bridge to E.M.R, Can any of their figures be trusted? A simple takeover for total control is the root purpose of this exercise.
Did not the asset stripping begin in earnest around 1992? Was there not a quid pro quo with the then sitting P.M? Re-structuring all the assets into shareholder hands and making the Port Authority proper an asset of the Port Group Ltd?
Seems the Government intent is to deny Bahamians the exemptions they enjoy as Licensees. The Legislation sure opens it up for discrimination and virtual whim by government. Who will put money in the ground under such uncertainty? Sucker punching new investors by withdrawing concessions after a year? Two years? There will probably be a ripple throughout the country, insofar as the government is contravening Statute law, by amending it without License consent.
The stupidity of the whole thing is we will never know what lies behind and buried in their "amendments" One thing is for certain: more Government BS and stagnation, variances in concessions for this one or that, Annual applications for various Government crap, back door deals, 80% not paying their bills, All that we have been able to "count on" from Government since Independence.
