The shareholders are all "good old boys and politically connected" Therefore, the move to "bail themselves out" is purely political and akin to insider trading and subsidy. Average Bahamians better start waking up to the harsh realities these fools and crooks will not face as they have left to join their foreign assets!
I agree w Wyckoff, Rolle is clueless and switches his edicts daily, He is IMF indoctrinated and a theoretician at best. He will also be the fall guy when it all collapses. Closing down may be the only safe option before the VAT M'coute come calling!
What isn't seen is the paltry behind the scenes payoffs and payouts which are a fraction of what the actual costs should be. You want a $5 two piece or a back door two piece w/ fries for 1$?
Vat is nothing but an effective data collection system for income tax. The data is needed to assess all assets and income for income tax, and there will be no hiding foreign assets via the TIEA signed with other countries of choice. All of this represents an outright Confiscation of Money from those with any left, by the Government who wants it all, and will take it all at the point of a Government Gun. Criminals have the guns, Government has the guns, Who is left without? The few honest bill paying weight carrying behind bars residing citizens. The Banking info is needed for direct attachment/confiscation of any cash in the bank, while you try to argue with the Sheriff of Nottingham. (John Rolle) Cesar is busy fiddling while Rome Burns.(Christie) To hell with your bills, the governmet needs to pay theirs, No different from the Officers Son who started dealing in drugs to pay the mortgage. The ends Justifies the means.
Consider that we do have some criminals that have been given a uniform by the Government! Also, the ideas from 20 years ago did not work, hence the crime levels we have today. This has been developing for the past 40 years, spurred on by our squandered opportunity for self determination, our complete lack in assuming the responsibility for self determination, and the new found ability to "jump" into a personal position in the ruling oligarchy for self enrichment. We blew it, short and simple.
Obviously Mr. Adderley has not read the H.C.A or he would know that the provision is there, in black and white for exactly that purpose: The transfer of the regulatory functions to a local Authority. not local government! That would indeed be a fiasco! Local Government doesn't belong within the port area in any case. In actuality, it is a common exit strategy for Developers, in creating Condo associations to assume liability for common areas and general upkeep. Either way, damn near anyone could do a better job than Hutch, Jack or Sarah, and the current mediocre Management team.
Stay and suffer brain death, economic stagnation and political persecution! We eat our young here, better they go away and stand tall. Can't do that here, you get mowed down! Estimated to be 50 thousand who never came back, Wow.
Correct Banker in the first part of your comment, however the inevitable marginalization of the majority of Bahamians and the associated increase in Crime will become a disincentive proportional to said influx. A split society will require many high walls and personal security entourages. Looks south to see what that looks like. I do not think the people of Mayaguana would like your suggestion however.
