Taxi Drivers have to be Vetted aside the commercial Drivers license required? Is that vetted by the PLP? We all know taxi plates was one of the first instruments of political power held over the heads of Bahamians! Will be hard for them to dismantle such an entrenched system of political patronage.
Great Britain may have robbed and pillaged other countries, over the centuries, Like just about every other Empire and peoples around the world. I'd be more concerned about the robbing and pillaging we do to ourselves and our own.
Before we change our system of Governance we should acknowledge that we have failed in the administration of our current system, the Constitutional Monarchy. Think of all the systems and edicts by all the government departments enacted quite unlawfully, and foisted upon the general public to attempt to overcome their own corruption? Total fail on that count, and they're still trying. Ingraham started the "legislate to overcome your failures" move, and it has failed, but succeeded in marginalizing a large % of the population who will never figure out how to get from point a to point b in any government process. Ludicrous to even suggest that somehow playing a different game will somehow work better given the caliber of our players.
The saddest thing is they only built a fraction of them, leaving the majority in shipping containers unbuilt? That means they have value, perhaps They could donate them to Haiti? I'm sure they could use them. Demolishing them is quite frankly stupid, however we know the Government has to act to prevent themselves from hijacking/stealing/mis-using things.
Clint is un-elected but speaks for the Elected, he needs to realize he nor they have all the answers. In fact they have very few. Misleading the public is a disservice to the public.
Leandra, dig a little deeper, the Russian/ Ukranian war is but a minor part of inflation, the real inflation is caused by the worlds Governments shutting down the economies wholesale without the tools/keys to restart them. supply and demand, Government shut off the supply, but the demand continued. Government drops duties (a pittance) but the first cost has risen 10 fold over, and the fuel costs on shipping have risen. U.S. inflation is over 8%, you think ours is less? Y'all cannot be that Dumb. Running a story like this gives credibility where none is due. They're raising minimum wage, what effect will that have? Prices sure ain't going down but up. Wait till you can't find eggs to buy. Prices won't matter then will they?
Interesting that for the first time we have a Bahamian press secretary, simply spinning whatever he can out of whatever his boss tells him to say. Easy enough to see through him. Costs have gone up on first cost of all manner of items, as has availability of all sorts of items being short. It will get worse. This week y'all worried about price, next week or month it may be "taint none!" 90% of Bahamians looking to the government, which makes the most off all from retail on the myriad of taxes, to save them! Hilarious if it were not so sad. Zero duty on an item not found is irrelevant. Zero duty on an item with a first cost increase of 30% is also irrelevant. In supply and demand Government is powerless.
