Look back at the terms and conditions imposed on Jamaicans back in the later 60's, You may move, but you will move broke and empty handed, and Bahamians will have long since lost pre-clearance and Visa privileges. The same IMF that destroyed Jamaica is now running this show.......
Gowon, you know full well that once they have the data from VAT income tax is coming sooner than that. Once the IMF have the internal economic data the Government has always lacked IMF pressure on the Government will shift to Income tax implementation. That along with Real property tax leveling across the board via the EU-EPA agreement non discriminatory rules and the TIEA agreements means Bahamians assets worldwide will be exposed and subject to Bahamian jurisdiction taxes also.
Like any of this is important or significant. A distraction that we eat up as fast as they can create it! Government by crisis is no way to run a country anywhere but into the ground. Tribalism is rule by personality. We have no shortage of Mini Me personalities.
They to shall pass, just as this current administration will, hopefully the HCA will outlive them all. If we finally get a Government that understands the H.C.A it may be saved at the 11th hour, But it better be the next admin elected! Doesn't look good though.
No doubt there will be no trouble for yourself Mr. Wilson, But the severe penalties that will no doubt be levied against mere mortal politically unprotected Bahamians will be catastrophic for them! We have yet to learn to apply the rule of law as written and without prejudice, yet we write new laws that go as unenforced as the old. Selective persecution Mr. Wilson, May you never suffer it like so many Bahamians have.
There may be a number of businesses that do not open Jan 3rd, as they literally cannot comply due to scant information right up to the wire, and the inability of software programmers to understand what is required. While the Government has always badgered and hindered the private sector both with and without reason, They are now using a stick to " encourage compliance" Yep, chicken don't lay enough eggs, beat it until it does. Great logic. Once they've destroyed the private sector, who will they come after next? History is replete with examples.........
The mindset is harder to overcome than the change that must be done. Exclusive VAT pricing will help Bahamians understand that the government needs us For our money, derived from our efforts. But we can do without them and their waste and corruption.
