Amazing the numbers we throw around, I do not believe GB Power Co has 10,000 customers (meters) in total! Yes, there may be as many as 1000 residential buildings without power @ any given time, either temp or for an extended period through the inability to pay the bill. even some commercial buildings are without power. The problem is GB power will not share information on many issues, and are guaranteed a min 10% return on investment under the new rate structure with the Grand Bahama Port Authority. The Minister for Grand Bahama has the dubious distinction of having no jurisdiction within Freeport, so not sure what he can do about it. Any and all fault is with the Grand Bahama Port Authority who sold off essential services. With Government blessings I might add.
Correct Proudloud, roof tiles, pottery, and other wares/manufactured goods do emit low levels of radiation as does the ground beneath out feet, however what is of grave concern is higher levels of cesium and other radioactive isotopes from the Fukushima power plant meltdown. Elevated levels have been detected in the Pacific basin reaching the waters of California, affecting marine life and Pacific mammals. Might want to get your right hand drive Japanese car tested!
That downward spiral started years ago, it will only accelerate with VAT and continued decline. Many questions, but no answers from those who claim control.
Please do, and then they can expose members opposite, which may finally clear the air, but do not stop there: maybe the Bahamas should host a grand expose, instead of waiting for the press to dig out the dirt!
Government pays foreign consultants promptly, otherwise the consultants don't consult! I'll always remember Lands and Surveys never having copies of all the maps of the Bahamas, always one missing from each island or area. Turns out the printing company (foreign) always held out a few, usually around major settlements so they'd be sure to be paid! It is we, the Bahamian public, who have accepted this, participated, and lowered the bar below the horizon. Why are we surprised?
Tal, not paying your taxes or import duties is not considered fraud or dodging, It is a Bahamian obligation! Hence why it wasn't apparently a problem for them.
Thankfully Businesses are not run that way, otherwise they wouldn't be around to collect VAT for the Government! A little disclosure would go a long way, as no doubt Mr. Lightbourne is not alone! Funny how we all want to demonize Merchants and business owners, and while there are always bad apples in every barrel, the Government barrel must be fully rancid!
