The Tax Coalition is a valid entity, approach the IMF directly and request all documentation and study that they have done. They are driving this boat, talk to the Captain. If they refuse, you have evidence of collusion to the detriment of the Bahamian people and their Country. This is no game, there are serious consequences to be considered that have remained unstudied.
This entire rant is all about politics! The PLP will get voted out over this just as Ingraham did, twice. Trying to claim a renovated Restaurant just because you re-wrote the menu while leaving the kitchen filthy is what this approach best equates to. There is no way, on Gods Green earth this will function, or produce the required increase in revenue being lusted after! But inflation will strike, the economy will slow down, and maybe stop based upon the "Pie in the Sky" Government approach, and the fog around your consultants and Civil Servants who drank IMF Kool Aid will dissipate revealing the disaster you have wrought!
There may be plenty for all in oil drilling, but Citizens of the Commonwealth of the Bahamas will never see any of it, save through Food vouchers or social services.
Government and Unions are the two lynch pins of corruption. Removal of either one would save a fortune. Every Govt Admin since Burma Road has treated unions like the unruly dangerous child, better give him what he wants. When that comes at the expense of someone else it is immoral, and seems now to be criminality accepted. These fools seem not to understand that a crime committed is a crime committed, the free pass on petty crime has evolved into a free pass on any crime!
Mr. Wilson, attracting FDI is all well and good, but not when the P.M. goes hat in hand. Also, has the office of the P.M. been so denigrated by its occupants that our P.M. cannot summon those who need talking to? Bass Ackwards Sir.
The Government is committed to VAT, because they have been operating in a vacuum, consulting with the IMF, pro-VAT for the access to the private sector paper trail, and VAT proponents consultants from other VAT countries, professing expertise, which could only be expertise on what not to do. Consulting with the Bahamian public at this point is an after thought, in which little thought is wanted.
No VAT until the BEC mess is sorted out!! No VAT until property Tax is paid up!! No VAT until Bahamasair and Water and Sewage has stopped bleeding the treasury!! No VAT until the Government comes clean on the IMF ultimatum!! No VAT until Bahamians can trust the Government!! I can waste my own money thank you, I have no interest in Government Helping me do so, and by force!! Incompetence is a costly state of affairs, but the incompetent are trying to shift their mistake onto those who have invested, saved, and honor and obey the laws of the land. Disgraceful individuals run a disgraceful Government. No doubt The P.M. will exempt himself from VAT.
Is there a Bahamian among that lot? Is Jerry Butler a Bahamian? Is any one of them a stake holder in the Bahamas? Is there a hope in hell of an energy policy in the Bahamas that will enable Citizens and business owners to help themselves? Can someone explain why the hell they are discussing this in D.C.?
Yup, they were given a Rolls, they turned it into a Jitney!
That 15% cost of living increase is gonna pinch them also. Notwithstanding their "lowering" of Duty rates, if it ever happens, the administrative costs alone on the private sector will drive that. Then they'll adjust the Minimum wage up, driving inflation higher still.
Self preservation, I hope every Bahamian can see thought this unmitigated B.S. This is all about their financial position, Their fiscal picture, not ours. All at the expense of the Bahamian working man woman and business. Maybe when all is said and done, we Bahamians will finally wake up to the monsters we have created.
