Aye, secrecy and the blame game between parties have created this mess, now we get to pay for their party!
While the Bahamas and Bahamians certainly need to become better at record keeping and accountability, both personal and professional, This is putting gas on a smoldering fire.
I have seen wonderful things done in the Bahamas, without massive cash infusions. In fact, the cash was an output of the efforts of a number of people, Bahamians working together. people who embraced trust. people who were shown trust, earned and returned it. People who still have that trust, and have not been betrayed. It is a pity we, the Bahamian people, cannot trust our elected. It is a pity, that they are incapable of nation building, with leaders satisfied instead to just spend, burn and dole out. Perhaps written history will put all our leaders since independence in proper perspective.
The leak will soon be down his pants leg when the reality is revealed! Where did our constitution go? Where has decent Government and civil service behavior gone? Slunked away in the dead of night to get instructions from IMF technocrats? The Government of the Bahamas is answerable to the Bahamian people, if the people would just ask the right questions, and demand answers.
Sorry if the first line is offensive, but the whole approach and contempt shown by these people who work for us is pen-ultimately offensive.
Deceit, confusion and secrecy are the hall marks of the incompetent. The double speak in this article alone, like every other utterance gives no Bahamian or foreign investor any confidence in Government. Welcome to the new Bahamian Police state! What is yours is ours.......
The EU-EPA prohibits discrimination Ms. Morley, so exemptions from real property taxes for Bahamians on undeveloped land will be going away, and very shortly. This VAT is all part and parcel of new accountability and trade compliance rules our Govt Administrations agreed to long ago. VAT is simply the tip of the proverbial Iceberg. Soon enough, we will have FDI in retail also, and wholesale, in fact in every facet of the Bahamian economy. Most Favored Nation does not mean protection for Bahamians I assure you.
You are right to a degree on that, Our Elected Government is really only the middle man between us and the loan shark. The terms were good, all we had to do was present excuse after excuse as to why we hadn't done this or that, all the while borrowing more, tightening the noose around our countries neck. I'm waiting for a Rolle or other point person to just lose it in one of these "presentations" and blurt out the truth under pressure!
Our elected are marching to a distant drummer, their only concern with us is that we act as we always do, accept and acquiesce peacefully.
Which never worked in Freeport, which is the original model they've obviously used. They have no clue at all what they're doing or the effect they're going to have.
They shoot their own credibility in the foot the minute they are sworn in and open their mouths. I think personal ethics and honor get hat checked at the door.....
Well said Mr. McCartney, even though you were once a part of one of the parties so condemned, it is never too late to repent! However, be mindful that the DNA grows into something completely different. Transparency is a clean pane of glass, no dirt or grime thereon. Good Governance is not about ridicule persecution or banishment of a single Bahamian voice, but making the decisions necessary for the betterment of all. Above all follow the rule of law and lead by example.
They have no clue, because they are not business people. There is no onus on them to Balance cash flows, debt, payroll, payables, repairs and renewals, vs market forces. They need more money full stop.It has to come from Bahamians, as the foreign investors are putting their FDI elsewhere. As for more promises of information, right, when the cows come home. Very Skinny I might add.
