There have been scores of qualified Bahamians and qualified Foreigners who have attempted to help the Government on Alt Energy over the last 25 years, with one even cancelling a business license to avoid conflict of interest, in order to help create a clean, simple enabling national policy. (all well covered under the Canadian Electrical Code which we use) With Government relying on URCA (clueless) and BEC/BPL (goes against their self interest) and Ministry of works (yeah, useless) If you want more stringent regulations, use the U.S. NEC codebook. (more up to date with latest Solar interconnection developments) Our Government is still trying to figure out 101 ways to "control" technology from 10-15 years ago! Committees are perfect for that!
Doing something about something they do not control, while doing nothing about the things they do potentially control. Global fuel prices are beyond their control, the taxes they add are within their control. They cannot control a deficit, they cannot control spending. They cannot budget. Can't seem to control their own rank and file. Sure can't control crime. Nor Inflation.
We have further to go down before we start the climb back up. (If we get that chance, our track record says we will screw it up) Covid presented the chance for Government to accurately measure the cruise tourism losses directly, which if correlated to the cruise/landing tax rebates and other giveaways wasn't that big of a loss. Which in turn presented the opportunity to reset the game. Unfortunately they ain't that smart. An opportunity lost.
He certainly seems intent on destroying the remnants of the party for his own purposes, taught by the likes of Ingraham and Minnis. Totalitarian rule begets incompetency, not productivity.
The saddest part is that all the civil servant who learned what to do (guided by the private sector) have retired and moved on. This happens after every storm. Frances, Jean, Wilma, Sandy, Joaquin, Matthew, Dorian, and as a result the Government has to learn what works from scratch every time. The best part is the Government walks away for the first 6 weeks, having received no instructions from on high, so what needs to happen happens in spite of them. "Control" soon reinstates itself and bogs genuine efforts down. No one ever writes an operational manual to go with the NEMA act, unto itself a useless document. So what happens when the real private sector efforts don't show up? The Government has nothing to contribute that they first don't appropriate from the private sector. Stupidity at it's finest.
